[Patina] Miller's decision to portray Charlotte Jenkins as a confident and assertive woman underscores just what a fount of inspiration Jacobs likely was to other free and contraband black people who shared her experiences.

Mercy Street remains strictly middlebrow fare, but it's well-done for what it is and better than in its first season.

Audience Reviews for Mercy Street: Season 2

Woefully overacted. Terribly cliched story lines. Obvious characters - if a character is not a cookie-cutter archetype, it is a transparent and predictable attempt to depart from an archetype. The extras are dismally unbelievable. The battlefields lack scale. Absolutely unwatchable by anyone but lovers of romance novels and unbearable melodrama. On the plus side, the props and attire seem to be pretty authentic.
