What to Know

Critics Consensus

Harkening back to the classic sitcom formula while unafraid to have a contemporary, risqué sense of humor, Mid-Century Modern is endearingly old-fashioned.

It’s rapid-fire and it’s glorious, and Mid-Century Modern’s three leads are having a ball. Go to Full Review

In “Mid-Century Modern,” our heroes would never allow a hair to give away their age. But everything else is fodder for comedy. And much of it works. Go to Full Review

“Mid-Century Modern” is a play on the ensemble cast’s age and famous Palm Springs architecture, a fitting title for a sitcom about gay men of a certain age looking for love in all the wrong places. Go to Full Review

Mid-Century Modern is an 80s show that could have never been made in the 80s, a new old-fashioned sitcom that dares to ask; What if gay, but old?... An easygoing, feel-good watch that might just be the perfect escape in these modern, apocalyptic times. Go to Full Review

What is wonderful is the presence of Linda Lavin, whose way with a phrase is like a defanged venomous snake, lovely to look at and extraordinarily clever, but you don’t want to get too close because she still stings. Go to Full Review

Mary Z @Marzip Jan 17 To misquote a line from the show "It smells like 1981 stereotypes".Offensive religious and lifestyle stereotypes abound. In Will & Grace, the sometime flamboyance of the character Jack was forgiven since there wasn't a lot of gay representation. Why can't it just be a funny show about midgay life? The most offensive "joke" was when the daughter was trying to get a good review from her mom(Linda Lavin) for her friends and said something like they're Catholic too. And the mom said that Catholics turned in their Jewish neighbors to the Nazis. That is supposed to be funny? It's hard to believe this is the edited version. A cut scene with Miss Coco Peru had a "racy" joke about a Sloe Gin Fizz (switch some of the first letters). That joke wasn't offensive. No wonder it wasn't renewed for a second season. See more Tammy L @RT38696861 Nov 25 LOVED! LOVED! LOVED! First thought was it was tacky and cheesy, but that was only halfway through the first episode. This show is funny and fresh and hits all the right places with comedy and fun. There is a nostalgia sense of Golden Girls, and they did a great job of reflecting on that and making it their own. Not having a second season will be very disappointing. It is worth the watch. This series is alive and fresh heavy, light, sad and great all in one. Not often you get such a variety in one show. We will miss the great entertainment this show gave. See more Miriam C @ProteaPrincess Oct 13 I loved this show. I am very disappointed that there won’t be more seasons. See more RONALD O @RT52512269 Jun 10 If you’re expecting something fresh or anywhere remotely modern, you’ll be disappointed. Tired delivery styles, predictable jokes, over-acting… coming from the creators of Will&Grace this fails miserably to impress. See more Kalissa H @kali_416 Jun 8 It got better as it went on. I wouldn’t be mad at a season 2. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Jun 4 10 funny and successful episodes!!!!!!!! See more Read all reviews
