If you’re suffering from gangster fatigue, this oblique spin on the genre might not be quite enough of a departure to win you over. Nevertheless, Regan’s TV debut remains an undeniably impressive feat with an incredible payoff. Go to Full Review

The series is interested in family fault-lines most of all, but it eschews the usual childhood trauma, sins-of-the-father narrative for something far less predictable. Go to Full Review

It is easier to admire its aesthetic achievements than it is to root for anyone, with the exception, perhaps, of Arran, sent away from Scotland to London as a child. But its ambition is spirited and stylish. Go to Full Review

Almost every scene is fizzing with invention. In another work, the characters might come second to the creative whirl, but not with the acting talent here. Go to Full Review

It’s an odd confection, but you have to admire the intention to break new ground with a very old story. Go to Full Review

A shovelful of artiness never did Shakespeare any harm. The question is, how much stylised whimsy and airy-fairyness can we tolerate in a gangland drama? Go to Full Review

Louisa T @RT72282373 May 10 Blew me away, character driven drama exploring love, family and obligation. Mesmerised since the first scene and loved every second. See more Andy L @LucasBright May 4 This was hugely disappointing. I like what they have tried to do stylistically but this doesn't compensate for the complete lack of good story telling and crap dialogue. The performances are mixed but generally impressive given the poor material the actors had to work with. The relationship that surfaced in the second half of the series is really wooden and unconvincing. I feel insufficient work was put into getting the chemistry right. And don't get me started on episode 5. A scene that should have lasted about 5 minutes max was dragged out for more than half the episode presumably because they were trying to be arty or something. F**k knows. Despite all this I still think it's worth watching because it has an exceptional cast who really do act their socks off and certainly kept me engaged even when I could easily have given up on it. See more Jaime U @jaimeunknown May 1 A great premise ruined by the overuse of artistic stylisation that does nothing to add substance or advance the story line. The dialogue is robotic and awkward, turning an otherwise decent cast into amateurish looking performers. See more Klia H @L.klia Apr 26 Did not think this would be as exceptional as it was. Absolute legend of a show !!!! See more A G @Working Apr 21 Ecstatically creative. See more Read all reviews
