Matthew Perry ("Friends") stars as Ben Donovan, the manager of a second-rate sports arena in San Diego, who starts to re-evaluate his life on his 40th birthday. Ben works with Alice, the tomboyish marketing director, who is his friend with benefits. Ben's newest employee is clueless Roman, who is the son of the arena's owner, highly erratic Crystal (Allison Janney).

Chandler is the one whose neuroses manifest as cute sarcasm. Perry, as the star and co-creator of the fine new sitcom Mr. Sunshine, stretches that screen image to its local limit, doing quality existential slapstick on the midlife crisis. Only in L.A. and only among rich narcissists could Mr. Sunshine be concocted and construed as anything approaching comedy.
