What to Know

Critics Consensus

Alexander Skarsgård's superbly dry wit brings a lot of heart to Murderbot, making for a refreshingly jaunty sci-fi saga about finally coming out of one's shell.

An AI like Murderbot may indeed become autonomous one day. We should be so lucky, not just for the comedic possibilities but for the validation. Go to Full Review

The show’s take on the gulf between humans and machines is a delightful departure from expectations often outlined by similar stories about AI. Go to Full Review

Skarsgård is an absolute marvel, an actor traditionally unencumbered by the conventions of genre or etiquette, and Murderbot emerges as a fascinating tale of community and solidarity where you least expect it. Go to Full Review

Marietta M @Marie98 6d Funny, clever and much more heartfelt than I expected. Can't wait for another season. See more Actually I. @Susan265 May 14 The first episode does kind of drag on. But once you get past that, this is a very entertaining series. The group is not what I would expect a research group to be. It’s like if California sent a research team into space. They are basically a group of friends who seem more interested in studying each other‘s biology than in any sort of science mission. You don’t expect them to survive. Good thing they have the secunit. The star of the show. Since the science group seemed to completely lack any survival skills, the secunit must come to the rescue. The performance is understandable and very entertaining. See more prawnda S @RT72497680 May 9 this is a pretty good show, but it gets really tiresome watching the humans ignore security alerts, cry, scream, and act like total idiots at every turn. Noma Dumezweni's character is especially irritating and extremely irresponsible as a leader, not in a charming or rogue kind of way. while skarsgard does comment on this "they'd be dead in a day without me" or something like that, they sure do everything in their power to outright prevent him from doing his job and put themselves at risk just as a plot device. perhaps this was better written in the book, but it doesnt swing here. in the first episode, sure. on episode 5 we should not be seeing yet another repeat of the exact same formula. these people should literally just stay inside of the pod, they do nothing useful whatsoever and the bot could be collecting any and all information they need to analyze, so the plot holes get similar to a colander pretty fast. See more Renato M @Kutusov May 1 I never heard about or read the books this show is based on but it's not for me. The main character is interesting enough but the rest is just insufferable. They pretty much made it impossible for me to care about what happened to them. The plot is also a bit obscure, takes a while to grasp who they are and what they are doing. See more Karen S @KLS128 May 1 I thought I might not like it from the title, but I do like Alexander so I tried it. I'm so glad I did. I really enjoyed it. It's not deep, but it is fun and easy to watch. I understand why it has such a high score. See more Priya C. @Sci-FiTrekkie May 1 The first season adapts the first novella perfectly. There were some small changes but overall this adaptation was a treat for the fans. Alexander Skarsgard does a phenomenal job here. See more Read all reviews
