In a world where those with powers are known as "Quirks," Izuku Midoriya has aspirations to one day become a hero but there's a catch -- he isn't a Quirk. After a tragic accident involving his friend Katuski Bakugo; Midoriya is the only one to have stepped forward to help protect Bakugo from a villain, because of his acts, he is given a gift by the world's greatest hero, All Might. Now, Midoriya attends U.A. School--a school that cultivates the next generation of superheroes.

My Hero Academia Season 1 is an exhilarating introduction to a world where superpowers are the norm, but heroism is earned. Izuku Midoriya’s journey from powerless underdog to aspiring hero is heartfelt and inspiring, anchored by strong voice performances and dynamic animation. The series balances high-stakes action, humor, and heartfelt moments, setting the stage for a compelling story about courage, friendship, and self-discovery.

A powerless Deku receives One for All from All Might and joins My Hero Academia. This season sets up the story for the series while also introducing zany characters.

Exact Rating: 8.6/10 My Hero Academia’s premiere season is a cheerful, character entrenched, and relatively well-balanced superhero anime and introduction to U.A. High School’s long list of students and Heroes alike. Anchored by an innocent overtone brought to fruition by the series’ most unlikely hero and central protagonist, Izuku Midoriya/Deku, and balanced out by the threat of unhinged villains, overly competitive classmates, and the superficial/celebrity-esque moments of Hero-dom, MHA Season 1 is equal parts funny, touching, sad, and action-packed. It can be a bit cheesy at times—especially in Episode 10, “Encounter With the Unknown”—but enveloping character work on all sides combined with top-notch animation, acting, and action makes MHA a thrilling superhero adventure all the same.
