Brian Lowry CNN.com 12/07/2023
The series follows a blueprint that’s comfortable in its predictability and calibrated to pluck all the customary notes, at times a little too self-consciously so, not that it’s likely to matter when the casting works, as this mostly does. Go to Full Review

There are harmful behaviors in this that are never questioned at all, and it’s also not sweet, fun, or funny enough to hold its own against better shows. Go to Full Review

Unfortunately, generic storylines, a massive cast and puzzling choices from the adults and teens alike make for a middling tale. Go to Full Review

My Life With The Walter Boys is a series of overused and badly designed tropes that lack any substance or heart in their presentations. Go to Full Review

My Life with the Walter Boys offers the teen dream in all of its glory. It might not be quality television, but it is fun nonetheless. Go to Full Review

Great to have Sarah Rafferty back. And the rest of the show is good fun too. Go to Full Review

Alexander K @tom889696 Dec 8 this how is an insult to human intelligence See more maya B. @luvekelsey Dec 4 this is was actually good for a ya teen drama See more Kyle J @KyleJarrett Dec 4 im going to be realistic, it was predictable, but what teen romances aren't anymore. the show offered us a great insight into many issues in season 1, read the book or not, it still has surprising turns. the love triangle of Jackie and the brothers Cole and Alex, her loneliness, the struggle of a permanent maternal figure, financial strain, jealousy and many other issues were discussed and shown brilliantly in the show. it may have similarities to the summer I turned pretty, but who cares, the show was exciting and had me entranced the whole time. while it differs from the book at times, not by a landslide it makes it more fun to watch. the show offers us so much watching, if there wasn't a limit on the review size I would write forever, but I am constrained to these words. the ending was done the best, Jackie realises she wants Cole but cannot have him following her months with Alex, leading the way to her leaving for New York which was very mature and a great ending to season 1 See more Cat M Sep 23 My Life With the Walter Boys had the potential to be a heartfelt coming-of-age story filled with romance, family bonds, and personal growth, but unfortunately, it falls short in execution. The premise is promising: a girl starting over with a big new family in a completely different environment. However, the show leans far too heavily on predictable teen drama tropes instead of building genuine emotional connections. Many of the storylines feel rushed, repetitive, or underdeveloped, leaving the plot without real depth or freshness. The pacing is another major issue. Episodes often drag, focusing on clichés instead of advancing character growth or meaningful story arcs. Even moments that should have been emotionally impactful are weakened by shallow dialogue and lack of buildup. While the cast shows effort, the writing doesn’t give them enough room to shine. Relationships feel forced rather than natural, and character development is inconsistent, making it hard to truly invest in anyone’s journey. On a positive note, the show does capture some sweet moments of family life and has a few charming interactions. The production quality is polished, and the Colorado setting is visually appealing. Unfortunately, these strengths aren’t enough to outweigh the weak storytelling and lack of originality. Overall, My Life With the Walter Boys feels more like a missed opportunity than a memorable drama. For viewers hoping for a series with heart, depth, and compelling characters, this season is likely to disappoint. The plot has more holes than it has story. The boys are all so bad at acting it felt like a shitty home made show with lots of money See more rameneformaggio Sep 7 Empty and unnecessary show, I really tried to like it but the series is extremely flat, the story almost doesn't exist. After finishing it you don't even remember what happened as much as the emptiness it leaves you with. Also, shame on Netflix, because what do you mean you keep canceling good shows, which are also quite appreciated by audiences and critics, to renew series that almost nobody has seen and which have such a low appreciation index, what's the point of it?
