What makes Nancy Drew's appeal span generations, however, aren't her relationships. It's the mysteries themselves... The first two episodes do not yet prove that this new drama has captured that very crucial aspect of the Nancy Drew legacy quite yet.

It's not there yet, it's really struggling, but you sense that it's got the goods somewhere.

This Drew is just dull.

A slow-paced pilot with dialogue that's supposed to elicit a smile but instead falls flat.

There are elements... that feel entertaining and nicely updated and the cast is decent, albeit extraordinarily CW-y. But somehow fiction's original teenage girl detective has been brought back to TV in a way that feels primarily derivative.

Ghostly potential as-yet unreached, Nancy Drew is not a better alternative to any of the shows from which it draws inspiration.

Given the degree to which "Nancy Drew" attempts to coast by on sheer attitude, it should come as no surprise that the mystery is fundamentally uninteresting and that Nancy's friends, in the show's first two hours, are undistinguished.

Making Nancy angrier and more rebellious doesn't make her a stronger character, and taking her away from her roots risks making the show into just a generic slow-burn mystery series with a familiar title.
October 7, 2019
Just as it did in its sullen Archie adaptation Riverdale, the network has squeezed all the light-heartedness and charm out of its characters in favor of morose despondency.
October 4, 2019
Teasing out the mystery does offer some hope of hooking an audience, but everything else about the series feels stale.

McCann has some presence - she's credible as the wised-up, slightly jaded, imperfect version of the spunky teenage sleuth - but there's a dullness to the ensemble; no one's striking sparks off one another.

As the kids are fond of saying, I don't know her.
