In trying to help other people, Nathan for You is an exercise in TV altruism.

Fielder's methods are ludicrous. But the point he makes is sharp: bizarre grasps, inflected with Silicon Valley loopiness and P.T. Barnum hucksterism, are the last resort of people who have been told that entrepreneurialism is the last virtue.

Just as often, the power dynamic tilts, enjoyably, back and forth, with Nathan's vulnerability as exposed as his subjects'.

Perhaps Nathan for You is ultimately about our unfettered capacity for credulity-not just the suspension of disbelief but the acceptance of the preposterous.

Fielder pushes the boundaries of nonfiction filmmaking until it lines up with the struggles of his own real life as a man portraying a version of himself for cameras.

There are precious few other shows this year that I can think of that have managed to do so much so subtly, and so effectively.

Two things I believe to be true: Nathan For You is one of the great shows of our time; it should not return after tonight's fourth season finale.

Business-rescue TV shows get their much-deserved comeuppance on Nathan for You, in which Fielder finds awkward Rube Goldberg-like ways to help people - including himself.

Wow. What a beautifully touching finale that explores some of our greatest fears as humans, expertly employing the blend of dry humor and fraternal empathy unique to Nathan Fielder.

Probably the strongest season yet for Nathan for You, as it's as innovative and thoughtful as ever. Nathan Fielder's propensity to help people through his absurdist character always leads to the funniest results imaginable, but as always his (seemingly) hare-brained schemes say a lot about the bullshit that carries American economics. Nathan also gets resourcefully ambitious in the season finale, a feature-length episode when Nathan attempts to reunite an elderly man with an old flame, as it's a surprisingly heartfelt episode, while still not sacrificing the series' all-too-necessary sense for the ludicrous. Four seasons in, Nathan for you is quite possibly both the smartest and most idiosyncratic comedy on television, and hopefully it's just a matter of time now before Nathan Fielder receives the super-stardom he so deserves.

Genius writing, brilliant performance and a truly special series finale.

Nathan For You is one of the funniest and most original comedy shows I've ever seen. Each episode takes unpredictable turns as Nathan narrates his way through overcoming obstacles in pursuit of his bizarre business schemes. He seems to stop at nothing to accomplish his goals, going to ridiculous lengths far beyond where others would throw in the towel. I'm always wondering if Nathan is a sociopath-- he never breaks character, even as he manipulates his reluctant subjects into going along with ideas they're visibly uncomfortable with. Whatever the episode, the results are sure to be equal parts cringingly awkward and hilarious.
