While the show's content is raw, there's also a sweetness to the series.

Now Apocalypse doesn't hang together with total cohesion but there are enough glimmers of originality to cut through the sludge of generic, commercially-defined internet TV shows.

Simultaneously an off-kilter erotic comedy, a camp romance, and a coming-of-age thriller, Now Apocalypse redeems the grosser excesses of Araki's movies.
March 25, 2019
On television, however, and with the assistance of Starz, a network that's embraced a certain strain of hypersexual melodrama, Araki's irreverent vision feels somewhat mainstream, even a little sanitized.

Now Apocalypse has an intriguing premise and a trailer that recalls Araki's acclaimed feature work. The finished result, however, is an absolute mess replete with awful acting and a lack of any sort of narrative structure.

It's hard to define what Now Apocalypse is really about, which makes watching it feel like you've tuned into to some sort of televised theater of the absurd.

Now Apocalypse is the gritty and poetic Melrose Place you never knew you needed and now can't live without.

This is all perfectly well-made, candy-coloured fun as well as being a bang up-to-date exploration of 21st-century sexual identities (co-written by Araki with sex columnist Karley Sciortino), albeit one in which everyone looks amazing all the time.

While Starz's new series Now Apocalypse hardly reinvents the wheel, the show's colorful aesthetics and charming cast make for a worthwhile experience.

Now Apocalypse has the right combination of quirk, mystery and funny performances to keep us intrigued.

This show is wild, in many of the best ways. Some of the most on the nose things in this show are played so earnestly that they work.
March 12, 2019
I like it very much for its cheery energy, its elegant awkwardness, its lack of cynicism or pretension, and its C-movie features twisted into goofy poetry.

Though Now Apocalypse is sillier and less philosophically ambitious than Twin Peaks, its similar commingling of the soapy, the psychological and the supernatural justifies the citation.

There's so much strangeness in this series... that's oddly charming, despite the at-first unlikable characters at hand.

Now Apocalypse plays like the kind of show that can only benefit from a decadent binge.

The result is kind of a grab bag of a show, but one that is nevertheless refreshingly upbeat, surreal, and sex positive.
March 11, 2019
Now Apocalypse boasts a game and talented cast-Berglund in particular shows off great comic timing-which is more than capable of narrative curves, infrequently thrown though they may be.

The nonstop sexual content often comes across as desperate, or as a way to fill time while the overarching plot is busy going nowhere.
March 10, 2019
The result is a bright and boisterous B-movie spin on a Sex and the City-tinged comedy of sexual errors that infuses the familiar half-hour format with Araki's signature cocktail of paranoid hedonism. Which is to say, it's extra af.
