Six rookie officers for the New York Police Department must learn to relate to one another and the people they are meant to protect on the streets of upper Manhattan. The trainees come from a wide range of backgrounds, including a former Marine, a former police news reporter and a young basketball star who squandered his opportunity in the pros. Academy Award winner Robert De Niro serves as an executive producer of the crime drama.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

While it boasts street-wise accuracy and decent dialogue, NYC 22 doesn't differ enough from the standard police procedural template to guarantee a promotion in rank.

"NYC 22" is so derivative of other programs that it is constantly fighting with itself because it exposes its own flaws through the comparison. It feels like "NYPD Blue" and "Southland," but those are the brilliant originals. This is the cover version. Go to Full Review

Given some time (admittedly, an unlikely prospect in today's instant-gratification world of broadcast TV), NYC 22 could develop into a dandy show. Go to Full Review
