Critic Reviews for One Dollar Season 1

All Critics (10) | Top Critics (4)

It's a solid and promising start.

Dec 28, 2018 | Full Review…

This first episode is a little shaky, but with actors like that, we're, ah, willing to wait for it to find its footing.

Nov 15, 2018 | Full Review…

More than anything, Martello-White's Noveer is what makes the series fun to watch...

Aug 30, 2018 | Full Review…

Characters have quirks but the quirks prove there's not much else there. Smart people eventually do exceptionally dumb things. The early trends are not good.

Aug 29, 2018 | Full Review…

One Dollar's cast of scruffy characters is an interesting bunch, even when under lethal assault by their own writers. I wound up watching them for four hours, about three more than I planned, and each one was more enjoyable than the last.

Nov 15, 2018 | Full Review…

Language, soapy scandals in briskly plotted mystery series.

Sep 6, 2018 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

These smaller stories, which get to the heart of human nature and the daily struggles we all face, provide the compelling reasons to keep watching.

Aug 31, 2018 | Full Review…

What One Dollar really needs is more interesting characters and more action to propel things along.

Aug 31, 2018 | Full Review…

It's less interested in solving the crime than building a sense of place, which may frustrate plot-hungry viewers.

Aug 29, 2018 | Rating: 60/100 | Full Review…

One Dollar hits its stride by episode six, proving it's a worthy addition to the Peak TV era.

One Dollar is my favorite thing to watch right now. Everything from the writing, to the acting, to the directing is executed beautifully. The show also does a fantastic job of dealing with race and class issues, which makes it all the more timely and engaging. I love the setting (a Rust Belt steel down in Pennsylvania) and the both the characters and the locale feel truly authentic. For anyone who enjoys gritty suspenseful dramas with an aura of mystery, this is the show for you. In fact, I recommend this show to anyone who enjoys first rate entertainment. I can't say enough good things.

Interesting characters and great use of the town. I didn't care for the dollar gimmick, but it wasn't a distraction.
