News & Interviews for Orange Is the New Black: Season 3
It's still raw and brutal, still funny, still sad, although maybe just a little bit kinder.
In the extended picture, it looks like season three might be playing a bit more with the larger concept of freedom - through the lens, naturally, of those who don't have it.
Three seasons in, just about everyone on the show is loveable. This makes for a thoroughly enjoyable, but not particularly varied or gripping viewing experience: the show tugs the same heartstrings, works the same funny bones.
Among the inmates, Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett (Taryn Manning) emerges in full as more than a one-note crazy hick.
Even in episodes which feature the backstories of the show's male characters, Orange is a show about women -- a show that is so powerful because it shouts against the idea that a single "strong female character" equals diversity.
In the current golden age of television, OITNB hangs easily with the very best shows around. There aren't enough TV dramas that focus so much on female experiences. Even rarer is the show that allows its women to be screw ups.
Season three of Orange is the New Black is just very, very good.
While there was a lot to like this season - including the further humanization of Pennsatucky and the moving expansion of Daya and Aleida's rocky relationship - I came away disappointed overall.
Season three is the best yet. It's probably the best season of television that Jenji Kohan, the showrunner for Weeds before Orange Is the New Black, has ever produced.
Audience Reviews for Orange Is the New Black: Season 3
Jan 14, 2021Thought the first 2 series were good, some great characters, but series 3 seemed to have lost the plot, I know thus is a female prison, but all the lesbian sex detracts from the story lines, its almost like the writer or producer has some sort of fetish for this.
Oct 09, 2019Orange Is The New Black routinely pays homage to its form, by referencing books throughout the entire Netflix original series. After the first season, the show heavily diverges from the truth of the memoir it was based on, though the show still makes an effort to honor books by including them in the characters lives. Not only do inmates rely on story to get through their incarceration, but their incarceration becomes a story (ie. Orange Is The New Black: A Memoir by Piper Kerman). OITNB may weave a tall tale, but a tale that is rooted in truth. Although the lives of Chapman and the other inmates depicted on the show are fictitious, they are based on real people in true situations. The show brings to light real issues that exist within the prison system, and educates us while entertaining us. Image result for oitnb standing on tables the animals The show dramatizes and exaggerates the realities of prison riots, and idealizes an outcome that could benefit the entire prison system. By grouping all of the worst-case scenarios in a Murphys-Law sort of way, the show educates people about prison life, laws, and serves as a sort of guide on How-To avoid prison.

Oct 28, 2017Orange Is The New Black Season 3 brings the witty humour and loveable characters that some of today's comedy shows lack with amazing performances from Dascha Polanco To Laura Prepon and the list goes on
Jun 28, 2017Well they've done it again and I have to wait until next summer to binge watch it.
May 31, 2017Remarkable ensemble cast, writing and social message make this series one of the best of recent times.
Mar 07, 2017And more of the same garbage
Dec 30, 2016This season wasn'the terrible, but I started to lose interest. I wasn't planning on continuing with the show. Between season 3 and season 4, I met my wonderful girlfriend, who was into the show. She was excited for season 4, so I got back into it. I'm so glad I did, because season 4 is the best so far.
Dec 05, 2016I'm currently going through a Netflix binge on OITNB and I love it for the most part, I'm only onto season three so I've still got quite a few episodes left to see - I hope the Piper/Alex thing dies soon - it's become really tedious, The less I see of Piper I prefer TBH, id rather see more of the other inmates who seem to have more depth and character.
Aug 14, 2016This season 3 of "Orange Is The New Black" lost a little bit of their other two predecessors, but it stills keeping the same good acting as the other ones.
