A show that not only exceeds expectations, but delivers clever, gripping storylines in a claustrophobic setting.

There's no real justice at Litchfield. We know that. But the finale spends so much time giving us false hope, only to wipe it off the table and bring Vee's story to an abrupt and silly conclusion.

My reaction to season 2's conclusion, by contrast, is more of a contented sigh.

Despite some of the problems Season 2 faced (character decline as a result from bloat, occasionally uneven writing), in the end it was another triumph for Jenji Kohan and her troupe of powerhouse actors.

At it's best when it explores the lives of the most diverse and interesting ensemble on television.

I instinctually want to wrap this season up in a bow, but I don't think that's what it was about.

Orange Is The New Black remains one of the most engaging series on the air even if it would be tough to label it as the most precise or consistent.

Season 2 was so richly detailed, with so many characters getting the spotlight and so many different stories going on, the only problem is knowing when to stop writing about it.

The continuing adventures of Piper (Taylor Schilling) and her Litchfield Penitentiary pals improve upon an excellent first season with an emphasis on thoroughly evil newcomer Vee.

... Orange Is the New Black is back (full season on Netflix Friday) with another 13 funny, disturbing and thought-provoking episodes.

Orange is the New Black proves women on TV don't have to be "strong" to be interesting - or entertaining.

Episode 1 of season 2 was a smart, successful premiere that does everything a good first installment should do, setting up the roadmap for the season to come.

From the glorious theme song to the closing credits, every hour is worth watching with anticipation. It was written to gobble up.

I scarfed the rest of the season down as if it were a sleeve of Thin Mints. No regrets. By the finale, Season 2 is stronger than Season 1, largely because it's more uncompromising about its characters, at once more nuanced and more damning.

Let the binging begin. The second season of Orange is the New Black is now on Netflix and judging by episode one it is twice as witty as season one - but also twice as dark.

Mother issues, anger issues, family loyalties, friendships, the question of "burn out vs. fade way" - it's all in here. Orange continued its strong tradition of being both heartbreaking and hilarious.

Obviously, [it] has plenty of stories to tell, and Cohan and her crew can be wildly entertaining at times even when going to the darkest places. Someday, the show might seem claustrophobic, but for now, the possibilities are wide open.

Orange Is the New Black remains a vibrantly hued, singular achievement. Darkly dramatic and comedically spiked, it deals in the dehumanization and restoration of both guards and inmates.

There is tension, but of a quiet sort, and much sweetness

If this sentimental streak is a little soft-headed, it springs from the series' huge heart and its expansive humanism.
