Ordinary Joe

Critics Consensus

Ordinary Joe has an appealing start and premise, but it's hard to see whether it's triple timelines will add up to a satisfactory season of television.

I love this fresh take on a "sliding doors" type of storyline. Where did our choices shape our destiny. its clean, no violence or horrific use of dirty language. its a delight.

Concept is interesting, but in actuality jumping from one life to another leaves the visitor confused at times. The acting is ok if inconvenient at times. The worst is rock and roll Joe's beard, horrible.

Interesting concept but extremely hard to tie it all together and don't lose where it is going. Good characters.

The biggest problem with this show is that it's 3 separate story lines in one, 1 hour series. Which with ads comes to 42 minutes or exactly 14 minutes per story line per week. It's almost impossible to more a story forward with any depth and complexity in 14 minutes.

This show is so charming and emotional. James Wolk is a star, as are all the supporting cast. The show trusts the audience to follow along and facilitates the watch with the changing color palettes and wardrobes. I like that it doesn't try to argue that the grass is greener based on one choice. All of Joe's lives (and Amy's and Jenny's and Christopher) are valid and come with their own challenges. It makes the audience think and feel. Can't wait for episode three.

It is confusing, but the issue is more that there are a lot of plot holes. I wish I liked the characters more and also that they would leave out some of the minor characters who do not contribute enough to the story.

Super interesting! Nice plot and super relatable, can't wait to see what comes next. James Wolk does an amazing job.

Whats unique about this show is what I believe will be its downfall. James Wolk brings a solid performance to the lead role but I don't see how the writers will be able to carry this on effectively without an ordinary audience (pun not intended) getting confused.

Quite refreshing to have a story like this (recycled but in a pleasant charming way )that doesn't involve the recycled, overuse time garbage that Sci-fi fans want. The pilot had everything it needed to introduce us to the three different realities created from Joe's Choices. It's not supposed to be a thriller show but rather a wholesome one, wherein you get to go on this emotional journey with the same characters in three different realities he chose. Remarkable performances from the ever charming James Wolk and Natalie Martinez with close second performances from Elizabeth Lial and Charlie Barnett. What the series lack was more time, shows like this need to be an hour long to flesh out the characters properly but it was charming nonetheless. It's definitely giving of 'This is us' vibe, which is both a good and bad thing. Good meaning that there'll be something of the caliber to tune into when This is us ends, Bad in a sense that This is us fans are gonna expect much that they forget this is a story on it's own, trying to make a mark or atleast pass the season 1 cancellation that Fox is notorious of. You honestly might not have liked the pilot but again, you really can't judge a show by one episode, rather wait till episode three before giving a final verdict. So if you are a fan of family, love and a little bit of drama (even I read somewhere that it has some thriller tendencies in the upcoming episodes) then this is the show for you!!

I loved the show. I can't count how many times I've wondered what might have happened if I'd made different decisions along the way. I find the characters are well developed. Looking forward to the next episode!
