Origin: Season 1 (2018)

Season 1

Critics Consensus

Origin's overstuffed space drama mimics many genre classics to varying degrees of success; thankfully, its stellar cast and withholding premise are intriguing enough to encourage exploring its mysterious -- if familiar -- corridors.

Critic Reviews for Origin Season 1

All Critics (16) | Top Critics (1)

When Origin gets it right, it's just a ton of fun. The slightly scrappy nature of the series works in its favor, with fresh talent both in front of and behind the camera.

Put simply, though it might be seen as transitional show in hindsight for YouTube, the pretty predictable Origin isn't essential viewing except for getting a look at the look from the Resident Evil franchise kingpin.

Dec 17, 2018 | Full Review…

Despite the schlocky space adventure, the series just might hook you because of its flawed protagonists.

Nov 26, 2018 | Rating: B- | Full Review…

The show never rises above its blatant influences... It attempts to cover too much ground and be all things for all viewers rather than focusing on telling a good, streamlined story

Nov 21, 2018 | Rating: 5.7/10 | Full Review…

Creepy imagery, sci-fi violence in compelling space series.

Nov 20, 2018 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

'Origin' is 'Lost' in space (pun intended), without any of 'Lost''s intrigue and charm.

Nov 15, 2018 | Full Review…

Origin is a decent enough, entertaining sci-fi yarn that's unlikely to stick in your mind much once you've finished watching it. Whether that's enough to convince anyone to sign up to yet another streaming service is another matter.

Nov 15, 2018 | Full Review…

Origin fails to bring anything original to the table. But that doesn't mean it's not worth a shot.

Nov 15, 2018 | Full Review…

Unfortunately, despite Origin's good intentions and mysterious manner, it's simply too derivative and absent of any originality to really recommend an immediate watch.

What happens when you convene a ragtag collection of (hot, young) damaged people sent to inhabit a new interplanetary colony? The answer: not much, apparently.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at this series. I kept being reminded of Alien from the good old days of Sci Fi Horror. Well done!

Don't listen to critics, if you like futuristic space, kind of sci-fi but the characters and their stories, just great

A good TV series that mix scifi and mostly horror. A bit of drama coming from reality tv. I love the scifi aspect and horror. What i didn't like is how stupid some characters are acting in given situations, like they are plot driven. I like the backstories except for Katie which was a real drag. The last episode was delicious. The quality of the visuals and the sounds were amazing. I give it a 75%. Not all the episodes were good but the acting was really solid and kept everything together.

Defintely recommended if you like sci-fi and alien parasytes stuff. The characters pushed into limit situations, trying to survive and all of them with a dark and interesting past from which they are running away. They grow interesting relationships between each other and are faced with some ethical problems that inevitably appear. Only 10 chapters (wish there were more) that keep you expecting until the end.
