Critic Consensus: Though it's as complicated as ever, Orphan Black ratchets up the action in "Newer Elements of Our Defense," with Alison and Donnie providing some much-needed comic relief.

Critic reviews for Newer Elements of Our Defense
If last week was setting up things to come, this week kicked it into overdrive.
This week's Orphan Black turned out to be one of the more entertaining of the season so far, as Sarah and Mark reluctantly teamed up to discover a potential key to curing the Castor clone defect.
"Newer Elements of Our Defense" was a necessary episode... but if I never have to watch Helena create a key out of a chicken bone and then stab someone in the brain with a scalpel, it'll be too soon.
I've complained that Alison hasn't played enough of a part in the clone shenanigans recently, but those complaints come to an end tonight.
What I enjoyed this week is that the scorpion counseled Helena to leave the Castor clone behind, while he begged her to put him out of his misery.
