Outcast: Season 1 (2016)

Critic Consensus: A cut above average summer fare, Outcast provides the genuine chills one should -- but often can't -- expect from television horror.

Critic Reviews for Outcast Season 1

All Critics (41) | Top Critics (20)

Judging by the enthusiastic reactions to the world premiere of Outcast's pilot episode, screened on Monday at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, Kirkman and his team have another compulsively creepy hit on their hands.

It isn't for everyone, but Outcast is likely to satisfy fans of horror done well.

The moving pieces in Outcast always feel like there's solid ground beneath them. We get to know each character; if not overly well then paced to a satisfying slowness.

The cast and the emotional back story in Outcast are compelling, and so is the growing sense that Kirkman is using his tale of demonic possession - based on his own Outcast comic book series - as a broad allegory of domestic abuse.

With all this time spent checking off genre boxes, there's scant space for the narrative to breathe beyond them.

Outcast is a Cinemax drama about possession, sacrifice, cruelty and Jesus. In other words, it's not your typical summer show, but it's one you really shouldn't miss.

The series takes exorcisms and possessions to the small screen and does it with a promising start and with a child who sure elicits fear. [Full Review in Spanish]

Simply put, Outcast is great horror television, regardless of how you feel about creator Robert Kirkman or that other show of his, The Walking Dead.

Jun 22, 2018 | Full Review…

Outcast takes on demonic possession in fairly riveting fashion, thanks to a no-holds-barred approach to its subject matter, and a decidedly unorthodox pair of exorcists, whose methods might be effective, but are a little controversial, to say the least.

Audience Reviews for Outcast: Season 1

I love this show. I’ve been a fan of many Cinemax tv series and this is definitely my favorite. It’s very well written and enthralling with seemingly many secrets and twists to uncover for many seasons to come if allowed to continue. It feels like the actors are actually dealing with real world problems which is amazing considering the unlikelihood of the situation. The cast, crew and fans deserve to see the story develop and evolve into a truly mesmerizing experience which will eventually spread to those not fortunate enough to have Cinemax, in its way to becoming a Cult Classic.

This is the only reason i have cinemax.

You neednto have a season 3 this shownis supberb

I really wanted to like this more than I do.

Some episodes drag on slowly but overall its an interesting and entertaining show. Not very scary.

Darkly brilliant supernatural series that isn't afraid to delve where others wont go. It's not for everyone but if you like a series filled with despair and where you really think that the bad guy is winning then this is a good one for you. Bitterly disappointed that it was cancelled

Every episode main character punches someone, hilarious!

Really enjoying this show as it is so strong on its athmosphere of dread and no holds barred commitment to its story, wherever it will lead. The acting is great and at this point, being far into season 2, it's still keeping me interested and wondering what the hell is going on here exactly. The explanation is still so open, it could be anything from an alien invasion to a supernatural event.

My favorite horror show with heart. Kyle is such a likable character and I just want to see him happy... but it may not be possible. :( I'm really hoping we'll get a 3rd Season!! Please!!
