More Critic Reviews for Outcast Season 1 All Critics (41) | Top Critics (20) | Fresh (33) | Rotten (8) Judging by the enthusiastic reactions to the world premiere of Outcast's pilot episode, screened on Monday at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, Kirkman and his team have another compulsively creepy hit on their hands. Mar 17, 2016 | Full Review… Jane Mulkerrins Daily Telegraph (UK) Top Critic It isn't for everyone, but Outcast is likely to satisfy fans of horror done well. Jun 3, 2016 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review… Gail Pennington St. Louis Post-Dispatch Top Critic The moving pieces in Outcast always feel like there's solid ground beneath them. We get to know each character; if not overly well then paced to a satisfying slowness. Jun 3, 2016 | Rating: B | Full Review… Ben Travers indieWire Top Critic The cast and the emotional back story in Outcast are compelling, and so is the growing sense that Kirkman is using his tale of demonic possession - based on his own Outcast comic book series - as a broad allegory of domestic abuse. Jun 2, 2016 | Full Review… Matthew Gilbert Boston Globe Top Critic With all this time spent checking off genre boxes, there's scant space for the narrative to breathe beyond them. Jun 2, 2016 | Rating: C | Full Review… Diane Werts Newsday Top Critic Outcast is a Cinemax drama about possession, sacrifice, cruelty and Jesus. In other words, it's not your typical summer show, but it's one you really shouldn't miss. Jun 1, 2016 | Full Review… Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Top Critic The series takes exorcisms and possessions to the small screen and does it with a promising start and with a child who sure elicits fear. [Full Review in Spanish] Jul 11, 2018 | Full Review… Natalia Marcos El Pais (Spain) Simply put, Outcast is great horror television, regardless of how you feel about creator Robert Kirkman or that other show of his, The Walking Dead. Jun 22, 2018 | Full Review… Nick Venable CinemaBlend Outcast takes on demonic possession in fairly riveting fashion, thanks to a no-holds-barred approach to its subject matter, and a decidedly unorthodox pair of exorcists, whose methods might be effective, but are a little controversial, to say the least. Jun 5, 2016 | Full Review… Mark Trammell TV Equals There is a sense of place created with the depiction of down and out rural West Virginia.
