Critic Consensus: Overblown, contrived, and preachy, Outlaw squanders the always-dependable Jimmy Smits on a legal drama with a surprisingly shaky premise.
Tv Season Info
This is the kind of legal drama that sucks all of its actors into a vortex of smug preachiness, where the good guys and the bad guys will never be confused.
TV needs a lot of fodder to fill the schedule, but junk like Outlaw should be outlawed, with a special-circumstances punishment for completely wasting as fine a talent as Jimmy Smits.
It would be great if Jimmy Smits' new show were really good. It isn't.
A not-terrible show with a premise as hole-y as a hunk of Swiss cheese. Smits, and you, deserve better.
While Smits is in fine form as always, his character isn't entirely compelling and is still the only one worth caring about.
