This is a meditative show for people who can't stomach meditation apps -- and thank heavens for that. Go to Full Review
John Semley The New Republic 07/29/2021
Painting With John restores something of premium cable's initial promise. It is singular, and strange, and obviously the work of a distinct perspective and personality. Go to Full Review
Peter Keough Boston Globe 07/28/2021
As he warns at the start, Lurie won't teach you how to paint, but after listening to his shaggy-dog stories and watching him create his numinous pictures he might make you want to try. Go to Full Review

Khevin M 10/14/2023 Calming and thought-provoking. The paintings and the songs are just fantastic. John Lurie is the perfect example of a modern multidisciplinary artist with fundamental intuition for self-expression. See more WarDriver84 08/05/2023 A very interesting man, nothing sleek or tailored, what you see is what you get, the music is great and i love his views on things. Great for unwinding from a busy day. See more David B @dlbicycle 06/12/2023 John's music has brought me great joy for forty years. I am biased, but the soundtrack is worth the time spent. Beyond the songs, I love his stories. You can feel his sincerity. His creativity is unmatched. Watching the painting segments tells a compelling story of the paint and pulls me in so I can't wait to see what happens, how it turns out. The vignettes with friends and staff just get better as they learn what they want to do. The ladies are so tolerant of his shenanigans; there are many grins to be had. I savor each episode. See more Susan J @CallMeLulu 06/05/2023 love it - brilliant - funny - kind - extremely strange - loved him for years and so happy to see him again. See more Marlene E 06/04/2023 THE BEST THING ON TV IN THE LAST 20 YEARS The only reason I signed up for Rotten Tomatoes is to rate this show. This defies classification. It is an invitation to open to your own creative spark and think about your world. Thank you! See more 03/01/2022 CANCEL THIS SHOW ! Terrible personality to host a show that he made ( otherwise would have never been made ) A self centered man who thinks he knows everything and he is cruel . It has nothing to do with instructional painting but all about him and his narrow minded opinions . Sorry John - But everyone can paint when they choose to pick up a brush !! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder . See more Read all reviews
