This Amazon-original political drama stars Michael Dorman, who plays the role of an intelligence officer named John Tavner. To stop Iran from going nuclear, Tavner must forgo safety nets and assume a dangerous non-official cover as a mid-level employee at a Midwestern industrial piping firm. Tavner is faced with the intricacies of his new day job and a stickler of a boss at the piping company, while navigating PTSD, failures by the federal government and escalating fiascos that continue to complicate his mission.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Patriot's second season is dark as pitch and ticks along to a slow-burning surreality, but viewers who are willing to invest in the series' moody pleasures will find themselves infiltrated by its scabrous humor and crackerjack dialogue.

John's reluctance and offbeat nature aside, "Patriot" checks off many boxes of the spy genre. Go to Full Review

Patriot passes that bar and has just enough smiles to mask the melancholy at its heart and keep you urging its hero on. Go to Full Review

Far be it from me to burden you with yet another heavy recommendation, but Patriot is truly strange and for all its weirdness, it's wonderfully, entertainingly original. Go to Full Review

Patriot, a series with some of the best episode title cards outside of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is another of the streaming service's weird gems, and its second season doubles down on its uncomfortable pleasures. Go to Full Review

Bob L @TheHumanOracle 05/10/2024 It's not quite like any other show, mix of spy thriller and quirky Fargoesque humour. Great cast, characters, locations and cinematography with a simple enough premise and plot (basically, bag handed to wrong person, get bag back). What I did wrestle with a little though, and couldn't work out if this was part of the satire or not, was the hypocritical infallible beliefs that had John and his father interfering and perpetrating on foreign soil (innocent children, civilians be damned), where the reverse would be incredulous. Maybe part of the satire, anyway, still went along for the ride, but it had me rooting for the other guys. See more Neil H @Neeyol 04/07/2024 Don’t get hung up on the plot. Plot is just one of many elements that make up a to show. That said, I think the plot is just fine. As fine as it needs to be. But the characters are impeccable. The performances, note perfect. The cinematography is delicious. The soundtrack is charming. This show is the epitome of bitter sweet. That may be your cup of tea, it might not. It is mine. Hence the five stars. I wanted to stay with these characters just a little longer. Ah, well. See more Speed N 09/29/2023 This is a monotonous sleep inducing series with no point other than the tone of the presentation. Don't expect the plot to make sense. Agonizing viewing. See more 05/12/2022 Wow! Most sequels lose the story line, this one didn't. Left me wanting more!!!!! See more paul m 07/29/2021 While totally enjoying Season One, I kept looking forward to Season 2 and wondered how it ever got canceled (or no mention of a Season 3). And then I watched Season 2. Bleh. Far inferior. Not sure how it's got higher critic rating but then critics love long pauses in dialogue, artsy stuff, etc. See more 07/20/2021 I watch a lot of tv, and this is truly my favorite series of all time. Everything about it is perfectly done and so unusual in the best possible way. It's truly a breath of fresh air. I watched both seasons all the way through then restarted it from the beginning because I enjoyed it so much! Absolutely heartbroken it was cancelled. See more Read all reviews
