Patriot: Season 2 (2018)

Season 2

Critics Consensus

Patriot's second season is dark as pitch and ticks along to a slow-burning surreality, but viewers who are willing to invest in the series' moody pleasures will find themselves infiltrated by its scabrous humor and crackerjack dialogue.

Patriot: Season 2 Videos

Critic Reviews for Patriot Season 2

The new episodes are challenging, morose, and, at times, opaque. However, the series has immense patience and consistent empathy that ties the audience to each character.

Patriot, a series with some of the best episode title cards outside of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, is another of the streaming service's weird gems, and its second season doubles down on its uncomfortable pleasures.

Do you like dark? Do you like funny? Can you tolerate some intermittent head-bashing in the name of American imperialism and/or ennui? Join me on this ride, friend.

Patriot is the sort of show that rewards those who are willing to stay invested in it.

If you do like Patriot... for all of its quirks and twists and slightly askew nature, well, I bet we'd get along pretty well.

John's reluctance and offbeat nature aside, "Patriot" checks off many boxes of the spy genre.

Patriot passes that bar and has just enough smiles to mask the melancholy at its heart and keep you urging its hero on.

Far be it from me to burden you with yet another heavy recommendation, but Patriot is truly strange and for all its weirdness, it's wonderfully, entertainingly original.

The flip side to an acquired taste like Patriot is that one person's television gold is someone else's disposable tin. But if your personal tastes run to off-kilter comedy, then this weird, atmospheric spy caper... is right up your alley.

A mood-driven blend of drama and comedy, one whose editing, direction, lighting and pithy dialogue collaborate to steep the viewer in absurdist weirdness.

Audience Reviews for Patriot: Season 2

  • May 01, 2019
Absolutely brilliant in every way. So many layers, so many metaphors, beautifully shot, and stellar, moving, performances. This show should have as many viewers as Sopranos, Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.
  • Feb 27, 2019
Possibly the smartest and well crafted shows on current television.
  • Feb 19, 2019
I think I liked season 1 just a touch better than season 2, but overall i continue to love this series. They don't pull any punches and the writing continues to be good. There are a few odd coincidence in the show that seems not plausible, but I can overlook that since the rest of the show works. Everything Ioved about the first season was carried over well.

Just finished bing watching Season 2. Holy smokes! I didn't think they could improve on Season 1, but this season manages to be deeper, more intense, more evocative . A really impressively good show. I hope there is a season 3

Best show, unique, clever, funny, painful. Want more and the acting is superb by all
  • Dec 18, 2018
Somehow they managed to make it more sophisticated than season 1 and the result is amazing.
  • Dec 12, 2018
I love this show. I can see leaders trying to explain how a mission goes awry just like this show does. Great satire, because I am sure that explanations like this have occurred.
  • Dec 12, 2018
An outstanding conclusion to a beautifully and truly uniquely written story. The ending to this season is quite possibly the perfect I’ve ever watched.
  • Dec 05, 2018
I love this show! Please bring it back for a 3rd season.
  • Nov 25, 2018
I loved the first season, but I'm so disappointed in the second! Horrible! It felt like they ditched the original writers. The humor was totally gone. The heart was gone as well. And they did away with John's songs with him playing his guitar. Instead they made them more sophisticated and they played in the background. One of the things I loved the most were his songs and the way they were so raw and simple. That was the whole charm. That is gone in the second season.
