Set against a sweeping Cornish landscape, two couples discover that their toddlers were switched at birth in a hospital mix-up, and face a horrifying dilemma: do they keep the sons they have raised and loved, or reclaim their biological child? Living a waking nightmare, Pete and Maddie are jettisoned into the world of the other couple; Miles and Lucy. At first it seems all four are agreed on a solution, but it soon becomes clear that hidden motives are at play. How far can each couple trust the real parents of their child – or even each other? As Pete and Maddie are stretched to breaking point, they realise they will stop at nothing to keep their family together.

Playing Nice...aims to be both a high-stakes psychological thriller and an ethical quandary for the ages — but lands on neither. Go to Full Review

Despite the extreme, nerve-shredding premise this drama also neatly captured the polite games middle-class couples play. Go to Full Review

What follows is an increasingly implausible if effectively queasy thriller shaped more by one man’s sociopathy than broader sociological insight. Go to Full Review

It especially excels in building tension in each new chapter. In just four short episodes, it manages to vividly deliver a truly unbelievable story. Go to Full Review

There’s nothing particularly groundbreaking or memorable about Playing Nice, nor does the drama have anything especially profound to say about parenting. You’ll likely remember your frustration with it far longer than any of its plot specifics. Go to Full Review

While the first episode of Playing Nice is a bit predictable, the performances of the leads, along with the prospects of what will happen in the rest of the series, adds tension to the psychological thriller. Go to Full Review

Monuque F @Seriouswatcher Jan 15 Enjoyed the drama. A little slow at first but ended well. See more Joanne G @Malakaskila Jan 8 Gripping series. Really enjoyed. See more Anya S @AnyaS Dec 21 Well worth the watch if you can suspend some disbelief in some plot holes (what happened with Miles's Mom?) and questionable character choices (why did Pete keep doing the wrong thing?)....but it all makes sense at the end. Gorgeous Cornwall setting and adorable kids. A great premise for a more serious film to explore parental love..... that doesn't resort to the typical evil villain climax scene at the end. See more K M Sep 17 I would highly recommend, a must-watch.. the setting, the story, the characters are brilliant amd a few twists and turns. Worth the watch! See more Dolores T Sep 15 It was a very good psychological thriller. Why some “top critics” are so dismissive is beyond me. Great acting, and solid. A nice escape. See more Elissa W Apr 18 Love it! Great suspense and interesting story that makes you wonder what you would do if in the same situation. See more Read all reviews
