What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though cynics may struggle to see it, Poldark's fourth season pairs a surprisingly multilayered side of social commentary with its soapy romantic delights.

It's a deep joy to be transported so effortlessly to a time when you could stand reflectively on a Cornish clifftop in an ankle-length cloak...and not see half of southwest London spread out on the beaches below you. Go to Full Review

Popular but layered, reflecting on society as well as portraying it, Poldark is arguably what television drama is for. Go to Full Review

Cap'n, if you don't mind me saying, I do miss Judd (humour) and...Cousin Frances (pathos) and...Aunt Agatha (humour and pathos) but I'm not going anywhere, and am not about to transfer my loyalties. Go to Full Review

Horsfield infuses Poldark's roller-coaster romance plots with dramatic realities, such as economic instability, class struggles, infidelity and political corruption - issues that are surprisingly topical today. Go to Full Review

It's business as usual, this series premiere, more a continuation of last series than a new departure, which is just how we like it. However uncertain the times, there are still certainties in Poldark's characters. Go to Full Review

Joanne E. @Joelle2025 Nov 23 I love this show! First time for me with anything Poldark… and I am now a huge fan. I love the characters, the actors chosen to play each and the magnificent story! I usually don’t watch shows with more than two seasons- I’m glad I chose to watch this one! Bravo! See more 01/29/2020 This season was better at pacing than some of the previous seasons, but as usual, the historical aspects were excellent. Poldark has always done a great job of shedding light on corruption, especially within the judicial process at all levels. The ease of corruption within this process and the huge harm to human life and dignity are much more honest and raw in this series. Touching on a deep problem within our government system, sadly, still relevant today. See more 01/03/2020 Poldark has everything I look for in a TV series: great characters, adventure, drama, joy, romance, inspiration, and feel good moments. The acting and the story are not exaggerated like in a soap opera. See more Michael S @GardenKeeper 03/09/2019 Great acting, fantastic visuals, exciting stories. What more could you want? See more 02/02/2019 Cornwall is not a "city" as the season info below states.
