What saves Protection is Finneran’s terrific performance. She grounds the series even amid the constant plot twists, making Liz completely believable. Go to Full Review

Finneran as DI Liz Nyles, a witness protection officer with a knotty personal life (quelle surprise), makes this complicated and somewhat crowded drama worth watching. Go to Full Review

As with all ITV dramas, suspension of disbelief is required. It does keep you guessing, though, and you will have no idea who to trust. And if the quality of the plotting fails to match Finneran’s talents, it doesn’t matter all that much... Go to Full Review

In an effort to make Liz more sympathetic, writer Kris Mrksa gives her an irascible dad with dementia. But that doesn't count for much, weighed against the affair with a married man... and the deaths of people she was meant to save. Go to Full Review

All you need to know here is that Sunday nights are back in business when it comes to tense, twisty police thrillers. Go to Full Review

Beyond its unique premise, [Protection] makes a good watch that slightly falls short of becoming a classic you would find yourself returning to time and time again. Go to Full Review

rr f @RT24414389 Sep 28 I'm not trying to be mean, but Siobhan was completely unrealistic in the main role. She has other talents as an actress, but she was not convincing as a sexy woman who would attract the good looking guy enough to cheat on his wife with her. He was way too attractive for her, and in real life, he would never be with her. I'm sorry, but it wasn't realistic. She was horribly miscast. She's just not attractive enough for that to be convincing. See more Kenny M @RT25443084 Jun 20 This is another series I had been looking forward to. So I allowed a few episodes to build up on my planner so I could binge watch it. However I had to stop watching after 30 minutes of trying really hard to like it. The massively excessive over-use of visual effects like blurring, low depth of field, excessive vingetting, soft focus and lens flare make this a real headache inducing experince. Every single shot is filmed through the back of a chair, or a door jam, or a tree, or at a ridiculous low angle. Every single scene is mostly out of focus, with obvisouly blurred edges and backgrounds. It's like someone tripped over a pot full of visual effects and spilled them all over the edit. Just because you have a visual effects tool doesn't mean you have to use it on every single scene! Keep the effects for adding dramatic effect only when needed, and only sparingly. Compare this to The Chelsea Detective, a comparable series, which was a far superior visual treat and much easier to watch. See more Ed E @RT42363546 Apr 19 Boring and difficult to follow, with many loose ends and a dead end. See more Kessie S @RT79672747 Apr 12 Omg whoever cast drippy Siobhan Finneran I can only presume has waved bye to their profession she was so badly cast with bad hair, bad clothes and I must admit I almost wet myself laughing at her running through the woods. She made the whole plot unbelievable! Who in the right mind would put their life in her hands. If she was cast as a Tesco checkout lady that would have been good casting! That hair which I presume was a wig was awful. Thanks to Siobhan this was a bad unwatchable bad comedy! What a waste, totally disappointed I'm guessing it is the end of her bad acting career yet she was good in Benidorm and ok in Happy Valley but should have stopped after Bob,sue and Rita whatever and done us a favour See more David H @RT86141269 03/31/2025 Silly convoluted plot full of holes. Sorry but Siobhan's lead as a disastrous protection officer was more wooden than my kitchen table. See more Amy C @RT72214841 03/31/2025 Kind of decent but not a patch on the BBC Bodyguard that was about public protectors, I mean no Richard Madden come on you want to watch a hot drama about protectors watch Bodyguard not this dreary drama.
