Give in, Ramy. Surrender. Stop overthinking things. Sure, it's a bit unconventional, but you gotta follow your heart. No matter where it leads. Who knows, you might even find some happiness. Inshallah.

Critic Reviews for Ramy Season 1

All Critics (38) | Top Critics (18)

The writing is rich and layered, the references are topical...and "Ramy" explores topics and themes that feel quietly revolutionary.

Apr 29, 2019 | Rating: A- | Full Review…

Ramy executes its male narratives with wit and precision. It's unfortunate that, so far, the show fails to demonstrate that Muslim women's stories can be more than a sympathetic canvas of unfulfilled dreams.

Apr 25, 2019 | Full Review…

Ramy is a comedy, and it's a good one, but its clear priority is to have the jokes emerge from the characters being so carefully drawn, and from the worldview so frankly explored.

One of the best new comedies of 2019 so far, and bonus points for also being one of the most interesting and different, too.

The show is more thoughtful than laugh-out-loud funny, but it handles its soul-searching subject matter with a light touch.

The first season of Ramy was astounding, a look at a Muslim-American millennial's attempt to navigate his religion, cultural identity, and own sexual and spiritual desires and views

In general, Ramy is a highly interesting dramedy thematically but in turn is quite insecure and irregular in its execution. [Full review in Spanish]

There's a push and pull to power dynamics and Ramy captures that nuance with heart, humour and intelligence. This is confident and commanding television.

Youssef unerringly captures what it's like to grow up as an Arab Muslim in America. Impressively, he does so while providing a multitude of entry points for other communities....

This show is for shallow-minded idiots who consider themselves enlightened... Every women in this show is a sex-starved freak, literally every one of them. In a claimed attempt to show "real" Muslims as not being the terrorists that Hollywood tends to portray, Ramy has went completely in the opposite direction. This isn't a show about Muslim people. It's a show about horny brown people in a white world. Religion is just a marketing tool to get brown people to watch it.

Such a pleasant surprise. Real portrayal of American Muslims and refreshing to be able to watch it. I hope it keeps going and I was so excited to find out there's a second season coming out soon. Ramy is talented and everyone on the cast is perfect.

so hilarious and unapologetic about his culture. Was craving this while watching Kumail Nanjiani's movie, but I am glad it Ramy delivered.

I just finished the season and was very moved by the last few episodes. The show is billed as a comedy and it is funny but more than anything it has to do with finding meaning and purpose. It's hard not to like Ramy as he is portrayed in the show, although I have a feeling that his behavior with women with piss many people off. He certainly is a very flawed protagonist and can be hypocritical about his religious beliefs. But then that pretty much happens with all religious people in all religions. Ramy the real person does a great job playing the Ramy in the show. Also, I think of myself as an open minded person but I realized after watching this show that maybe I have not been as open minded about muslims as I thought. Hard to explain here. Every time I have seem a mosque or Muslim people praying on tv or in a movie it either was a very short clip on the news or a heavy drama that involved terrorism -- like Homeland. Ramy does not try to make muslims perfect at all but by the end of the show watching a scene at the mosque felt more familiar. I hope there is a season 2 and I hope the audience for the show grows.
