Haroon W Apr 6 I must say I loved the novel . I think this series could have been much shorter. I understand the need to adapt a novel but an Irish actress playing a Scottish woman who escapes to the Karoo to play Tannie Maria just doesn't work for me. It lacks a lot of the authenticity and beauty of the novel and comes across most of the times as one long Outsurance Advert cinematically. Taking me days to get through it and it's starting to feel like a snoozefest. The 3 stars is generous tbh. Yes it's South African and one is supposed to be all proudly South African and rainbow nation and all that jazz but sentimentality and blind patriotism isn't enough alas ... a few quirky performances, touching moments, interesting cooking scenes but I just could not wait for it to end so that I could return to something even semi-intellectually stimulating See more Ali D Feb 8 Loved this series. This is sort of a hidden gem that I, like many people, found by accident on Amazon shortly before it is due for removal. Acorn puts out a lot of great content and I am hoping there will be a season 2. My only complaint is that the murder mystery lasts the entire 10 episode season and it really drags it out since it isn't addressed much during the episodes. By the time the murders are solved, you have long forgotten the people murdered and no longer really care about them. The slow progress in solving them is also a bit irritating.
