Laura Holt gets no respect as a private investigator, so she makes up a fictitious boss named Remington Steele - and business starts flowing in. The only problem is a dashing and mysterious thief who assumes the Remington Steele identity and who, surprisingly, is really good as a P.I. - especially when paired with Holt.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Pierce Brosnan's charm almost overpowers the quirky setup of Remington Steele, although he and Stephanie Zimbalist have enough begrudging rapport to keep viewers in on the con.

He's supposed to play a corporate nonentity, a shell, a figurehead someone whom Laura Holt manipulates pulls the strings like a puppet... They could have done worse -- getting James Bond (Sean Connery). But Brosnan is a pretty bad choice. Go to Full Review

Packed with bright and cheeky dialogue from the scriptwriter and executive producer Michael Gleason. That and the light, cheerful, complementary performances of Stephanie Zimbalist and the Irish-born Pierce Brosnan make this a series worth trying. Go to Full Review

This is an unassuming, entertaining programme, handled in a similar way to the first series of The Saint. Go to Full Review

Miss Zimbalist possesses beauty heightened by her intelligence. Brosnan performs sophisticated comedy as though it were a dance by Astaire. The young Irish actor makes Steele a most intriguing character. Go to Full Review

Remington Steele is a slick show. Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan make an attractive couple. The show is a cross between Hart to Hart and Mr. and Mrs. North. Go to Full Review

Mike P @RT09890132 Apr 6 Solid 80s detective series; which is both a romantic comedy and a thriller-mystery; built mostly on the charm of Pierce Brosnan; (and remembered mostly as this, his first show). Stephanie Zimbalist and Doris Roberts co-star and provide solid support. This is also thought of as a poor man's Moonlighting; and while it's not as edgy and innovative as that show; it's still competitively solid entertainment. And the theme song is much better, for what it's worth. See more Read all reviews
