Critic Reviews for Reno 911! Season 1

The tone: deadpan with burps of sheer nuttiness.

Sep 12, 2018 | Full Review…

The show is difficult to describe because what carries it is not the specific jokes, but the charisma and reactivity of the actors, who play off each other with so much zeal it's impossible not to fall in love with them.

when it hits its high marks it does raise belly laughs, providing that you allow yourself to be sucked in to this over-the-top world of freaks and larger-than-life characters.

Sep 12, 2018 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

So aggressive is RENO 911!'s low-budget affect that Cops looks positively polished by comparison... Here, jokes fall into dead space or turn bizarre, and characters are mostly conventional types.

Sep 12, 2018 | Full Review…

Of course, timing is everything in comedy. And Reno 911! - a faux reality show - came along at a particularly good time.

Jul 2, 2018 | Full Review…

The wit in Reno 911! is not in the Mad magazine plots but in the sustained deadpan mockery of Fox's long-running Cops and other shows that follow police officers as they respond to calls from trailer parks, apartment buildings and strip malls.

Jul 23, 2003 | Full Review…

As this series has evolved, its format has proven remarkably expansive and emotionally rich, using parodic elements to explore these characters and place them precisely in a social environment.

Sep 5, 2003 | Rating: A- | Full Review…

This brand of humor can be an acquired taste, but fans with a tolerance for out-there buffoonery will want to make the trip to Reno.

It's hilarious stuff for grown-up viewers who prefer their satire droll and dark, but it's not meant for kids.
