The Season 6 opener begins with a vision of Tommy's afterlife that isn't pretty, but it turns out that he survived his shooting at the hand of Teddy. Everyone around him sees to it that he walk a narrow path, however, and he's haunted by his memories. Meanwhile, city budget cuts loom, and 62 Truck is threatened. As Lou puts it: "We have a big target on our back."
Tommy decides to turn over a new leaf. "I am quitting drinking," he announces to the guys (to gales of laughter). He's also under pressure from Janet to do something about Colleen's drinking, and Sheila wants him to get Damien to quit FDNY. Meanwhile, Tommy tells Lou about what he experienced after being shot, and Mike Siletti overhears it. Soon everyone else knows as well.
Tommy returns to work on a very busy day for 62 Truck, and the out-of-shape Lou has difficulty keeping up. Tommy also vows to stop drinking (again)---except for wine. That's not good enough for Janet, Teddy or Father Mickey. "You're a lost cause," Teddy tells Tommy, "and we're going to cut you loose."
With the cookout approaching one key ingredient is missing, so the crew takes a drastic step to obtain it. Meanwhile, Tommy continues to be troubled by his taste of the afterlife, so he seeks out a priest (Peter Gallagher); Sean helps a cancer-stricken firefighter (Will Chase) break out of the hospital; and Damien consorts with the enemy, so to speak, when he dates a probie (Deanna Russo) from the rival firehouse, the West Side Wildmen.
Tommy loses control after blacking out during a night of heavy drinking, and the crew must put the pieces together the next day. They also must find a missing piece: Colleen.
Sanctuary: Tommy's efforts to help Colleen stop drinking force him to face some demons from his own checkered past.
Forgiven: After Colleen drops the assault charges against him, Tommy heads back to work to discover that 62 Truck has been shut down. Donde sea disponible en SAP.
As Chief Feinberg loses control, Needles puts his political leverage at FDNY headquarters to good use. Meanwhile, Damien comes to the rescue of a helpless victim, and Tommy and Sheila find themselves in hot water.
Tommy and Sheila find themselves in trouble with Janet and Mickey, and discover what their relationship is really about. Meanwhile, Damien tries to leave 62 Truck.
Season 6 finale: Tommy and Sheila try to adjust to life after Damien's accident. Tommy also struggles to budget his time. Meanwhile, Sean and Mike finally get a memorial to firefighter Pat Mahoney, and the guys find a new pickup ploy.

Critic Reviews for Rescue Me Season 6
All Critics (14) | Top Critics (7) | Fresh (13) | Rotten (1)
It leaves the impression that last season's closer was a standard-issue TV gimmick rather than a dramatic game-changer that will set this series on track for the conclusion it deserves.
The heat couldn't be more intense if you opened the front door on a four-alarm fire.
If there ever was a show that captured the learned helplessness of the American male, this show is it.
Welcome back, Rescue Me - over a year later, your sometimes lovable, sometimes frustrating combination of credible drama, adorable dude humor, and occasional self-righteousness is still intact!
Enough to keep me interested, but I don't know if the rest is quite up to snuff.
Uneven but irreverent, Rescue Me manages to rescue itself, immersing us in the tumultuous firefighting life that is the reason we watch the show.
The show's signature comedic/dramatic tone is prominent as ever and what keeps Rescue Me so great is its undying fearlessness to take on any topic, no matter how taboo.
Rescue Me needs rescusing from itself and deliverance will soon come. Until then, fans of the series can enjoy the ride -- even if it sometimes feels like a rerun.
The show retains its ability to be both brilliant and maddening, sometimes in the same episode.
Overall, a great start.
The series is off to a great start and it looks like we will be getting nothing shy of excellence for these last two seasons.
The comic relief we have come to rely on in the macho camaraderie has more of a tinge of gallows humor this season, which isn't to say that Rescue Me feels like a show on its last legs, more like it's nearing its natural end.
