If Samson tones down the act as the series goes on, this will be a welcome addition to the franchise. Go to Full Review

The franchise has travelled to its new location without losing its most essential quality, which is that it can be happily consumed on a drizzly British winter evening with a glass of Yellow Tail Sauvignon Blanc and only one eye on the screen. Go to Full Review

It’s same old, same old, from the police station layout to the “I’ve gathered you all here today” denouement. Go to Full Review

At some point, no doubt, Clarke will be revealed to have a softer side. But, while we wait for that, the effect of her abiding gloom after two episodes is to suck the usual joy out of what really is known in TV circles as ‘the Paraverse’. Go to Full Review

chumcha07 @Cee07 Jan 29 I found this to be a welcome addition to the "Paradise" series. While it isn't as upbeat and light as the original series, I still find the show enjoyable!! The show does focus on the character and story of the Detective in the case and how she struggles to understand the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. See more Javed A @Jali88 Nov 22 Acting good well written See more Alan B @RT58484342 Nov 16 Although the story line is good, the directing is very much second rate. Although the acting by most of the cast is good, Anna Samson is second rate in this series, possibly because of the rubbish director, (as is Catherine McClements and some of the extras). See more Ian M @RT71193160 Nov 10 If ever there was miscasting this is it, Mackenzie is an odd looking creature quite alien like in gavt and pulls lots of odd faces, she hasnt got 1 redeeming feature, iys duch a shame because the test of the ' paradise" series family have been superb, what a let down, the test of the Characters are quite good, but she ruins it. See more Yvette P @RT15539772 Nov 9 Acting is awful. Is it supposed to be a comedy? The lady detective keeps making funny faces. I kept waiting for the canned laughter. I really don't get it. See more S M @RT68525869 Sep 13 It did take a few episodes to warm up to MacKenzie, but I'd expect that of a character with autism. I actually think her behavior harkens back to the original Death in Paradise detective. So that opened me up for it. My main issue with the new series is that I find love triangles to be a really tired trope. Especially when the lead character is female. It seems like the go-to drama plot for women. The character is autistic and has a complicated relationship with her mom, but the series decides to focus on her love-life. Maybe people would like Mackenzie more if they were shown a bit more of her personal struggle to connect with others. I mean, she's a detective who's managed to get pretty far on her own. Don't be so lazy writing the character of Mackenzie. See more Read all reviews
