Jill R @Ranfje 4 hrs ago As a fan of all things Robin Hood, I decided to watch this. The production values are very good and with the odd exception, so is the acting. I have one issue and that is the gratuitous soft porn scenes, similar to those in Game of Thrones. I’m not averse to sex scenes at all, but some are very graphic and apart from titillation, are totally unnecessary. Has this put me off watching? Well, yes. But as this story of the Saxon's movement for freedom flows through tragedy and twists of passion, the perennial power struggles become the substance of excitement. The star-studded cast with Lauren McQueen's divine beauty, Connie Nielsen's gracious presence and Sean Bean's towering persona makes the show worth the time. Robin's storied merry men are personified in a radical manner too. Erica Ford, Marcus Fraser, Angus Castle-Doughty and Ryan Gage to name a few, give the famous and lesser-known characters a new interesting look. Cinematography and special effects were perfect for this historical action drama. Great sound effects played a quiet role with great importance. And as the creative liberties raise the stakes and leave the affairs inconclusive, Robin, Marion and Merry Men will emerge to take up new challenges. PROs: 1) Some good casting (Robin Hood not among them. He has the look and not much else) 2) Nice portrayal of how Robin Hood became an outlaw - true to the stories. CONs: 1) NONE of Robin Hood's men were "merry". NO songs sung, a staple of the tales. 2) Robin Hood has no quarterstaff! What?! How? 3) 2-dimensional characters, especially Marian's father. 4) The show portrays Robin Hood as a vengeful rebel rather than a clever, skillful do-gooder outlaw who takes from the rich and gives to the poor. This isn't even Robin Hood. 5) No archery contest??? 6) Robin Hood is a pagan, now? They did wrong on SO many levels, it's hard to keep track. Better historical and traditional adaptation is needed.
