What to Know

Critics Consensus

A classical rendition of the Nottingham legend played straight, this Robin Hood doesn't reinvent the longbow but is polished enough to stir up some merriment.

Is it any good? It’s perfectly fine, if very melodramatic. Bean is, as you’d expect, a hefty presence. Go to Full Review

The outlaw character of Robin Hood has been a part of English folklore for more than 600 years, and there have been numerous screen adaptations...so it's not altogether surprising this latest version can sometimes struggle to escape the generic. Go to Full Review

Look, by any objective measure Robin Hood is terrible. Subjectively? I couldn’t be having more fun and I suspect it will be the same for anyone who goes into it with the right attitude. Go to Full Review

Swashbuckling new vibe on a cultural icon, an enduring legend...with new twists on familiar characters. I'm eagerly anticipating the second season. Go to Full Review

This series fleshes out rich, cultural origins for this notable folkloric outlaw. Robin Hood is grounded in history and spirituality. Balanced with nuanced, strong characters, this typical tale is a lot more interesting and refreshing this time around. Go to Full Review

Robin Hood is refreshingly adamant about not neglecting its key female characters, and both Priscilla and Marian get a good amount to do here. Go to Full Review

sally B @RT51036825 Aug 22, 2026 If you expect this to be like all the other Robin Hoods, you'll be disappointed. If you want an exceptional story that is well acted and exciting, this is a can't miss. It starts slow, giving time to get to know the characters, then builds throughout the series. See more Christopher P @cpalasz Aug 12, 2026 This version of Robin Hood completely misses the mark. I watched all episodes. If you don't like the first 2, it doesn't get any better. PROs: 1) Some good casting (Robin Hood not among them. He has the look and not much else) 2) Nice portrayal of how Robin Hood became an outlaw - true to the stories. CONs: 1) NONE of Robin Hood's men were "merry". NO songs sung, a staple of the tales. 2) Robin Hood has no quarterstaff! What?! How? 3) 2-dimensional characters, especially Marian's father. 4) The show portrays Robin Hood as a vengeful rebel rather than a clever, skillful do-gooder outlaw who takes from the rich and gives to the poor. This isn't even Robin Hood. 5) No archery contest??? 6) Robin Hood is a pagan, now? They did wrong on SO many levels, it's hard to keep track. Better historical and traditional adaptation is needed. This is a disgrace. Worst "Robin Hood" so far - bar none. See more Per S @RT83737705 Jun 11, 2026 Melodramatic overacted and theatrical drama with historical inaccuracies. Like an outdoors history drama, only with a camera close. See more Maracy A @RT49688841 May 19, 2026 Great actors, a great story, and amazing chemistry between the romantic couples. Absolutely great! See more Philipp N @PhilippNixdorf May 9, 2026 I Liked it. Pacing was a bit slow at first but soon got better. Great thing is that the characters are not one dimensional, but complex, just liker in GoT (Sean Beans character is the best example). Action especially in the last 2 episodes was great. Looking forward to season 2. See more Ben J @RT46551381 Mar 27, 2026 The series is really good but it misses an important part of Robin Hood’s story: his secondary weapon, the quarterstaff. In the earliest ballads, Robin meets Little John on a bridge and they duel with quarterstaffs. Robin loses because Little John is bigger and stronger, but the duel leads to them becoming close friends, showing skill and respect matter more than size or rank. The quarterstaff is more than a weapon. It represents skill, fairness, and the martial traditions of ordinary Anglo-Saxon people. Swords were illegal for peasants, so the staff was their main weapon. Robin and others became skilled with it, making it a symbol of fighting for the people. Unlike his longbow, used from a distance, the staff shows close combat, strength, camaraderie, and connection to the common people. It is an important part of Anglo-Saxon martial history and English folklore, and it is a shame modern adaptations like the Sean Bean series leave it out. See more Read all reviews
