It's based around the very real—and frequently unbelievable—origins of Britain's SAS, while openly taking liberties and embracing a wildly stylized presentation. And somehow that approach fits the men perfectly. These aren't polished Hollywood commandos. They're brilliant, reckless, argumentative, frequently insane personalities experimenting with an entirely new way of fighting a war. The raids, improvisation, dark humor, friendships, rivalries, and constant disregard for convention make the series ridiculously entertaining. I especially love knowing that beneath all the punk music and exaggerated style are real men and operations so audacious that some of the true stories already sound fictional. The action is intense, the pacing rarely slows down, and the Tarantino-esque moments give it a wild, unpredictable energy without overwhelming the story. What surprised me most was the character development. The soldiers are not presented as simple heroes—they are complicated, reckless, funny, damaged, and often difficult, which makes them far more interesting. The show balances violence, dark humor, emotion, and history extremely well. It is stylish, unconventional, and completely addictive. Completely wonderful See more Mike C @GreyArea11 Feb 16, 2026 Excellent TV show, really highlights the heroism of these guys and gives a (mostly) true look into the creation of one of the greatest regiments ever raised. I've dropped one star due to the portrayal of Paddy Mayne though. Whilst no one denies he was a bristly character and even more so when drunk he was well regarded as a brilliant strategist and unerringly brave soldier, he was also a qualified solicitor so much less of the one dimensional thug being portrayed here. In addition O'Connell doesn't have the imposing stature to represent him (although he's a great actor) as you have to remember Paddy was an British Lion prior to the war. These gripes, from a Newtownards lad who has sort of idolised Paddy since youth, aside, a great show. See more Read all reviews
