The series is a fine achievement, especially in this age of sprawling series that seem to swell and inflate constantly. Here, that plain room becomes a large arena for storytelling. And not a single second can be nonessential.

The Duplass brothers' influence is obvious in the level of talent on display, but in execution it feels more like a promising student film.

At 25 minutes an episode, it is pretty terrific entertainment. Even the drab and unchanging hotel decor may start to grow on you.

It's a late night inheritor of those shows that were always too weird for primetime. But in the age of peak TV, weird can be far superior to being bland.

In binging all twelve episodes, I found myself to enjoy this season far more than the first even if no single episode hits quite the same dramatic highs as the first season finale. In fact, there seems to be much more of a bend towards horror this season.

The anthology series is finally hitting its stride in its sophomore season, growing beyond a cool storytelling conceit into a star-studded, artistically prestigious endeavor.

Anyone who liked an episode or two last year -- or finds themselves enticed by the premise, creators, and/or fresh talent -- should make a note to fully engage with Room 104 in Season 2.
