Enigmatic Dr. Helen Magnus and her team -- forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman, tech genius Henry and Helen's daughter, Ashley -- study the eerie beings most humans dismiss as the imaginary stuff of nightmares, but who secretly are living and moving about in the modern world in this sci-fi series that is filmed with extensive use of green screens and "virtual sets."

Having recently rewatched it all again, whilst some of the CGI can look a little primitive by 2024's standards (there was a noticeable improvement as it went along), the rest is as fresh as the day it was minted. A beautifully acted, wonderfully plotted and genuinely ambitious masterpiece of a show. One of my absolute favourite of recent years. It's a damn shame that more series weren't made as it easily had the legs to continue far after this point. At least it largely resolved itself despite feeling a little rushed towards an ending which was sadly forced upon the series due to cancellation. I'd love to see a reboot and a return of the characters and if possible the actors themselves - at least in some capacity. Still, it leaves behind a wonderful legacy, some of the finest episodes of any modern sci-fi series, a set of characters that you actually cared about and left its loyal audience wanting more. A stone cold classic series in my book and one that deserves to stand proudly and hold its head up high amongst the very best. See more Read all reviews
