A period-drama adaptation of Jane Austen's final novel, written only months before her death in 1817, features Rose Williams and Theo James as the lead characters of Charlotte Heywood and Sidney Parker. The story follows Charlotte as she moves to the quiet fishing village of Sanditon for a fresh start, only to meet Sidney, a charming man who has ambitions to turn the tranquil seaside residence into a luxury resort. Written by Emmy and BAFTA award-winning screenwriter Andrew Davies.

... A light, traditional whirl through a familiar Austen world, but given a welcome shot of acid by Anne Reid’s acerbic Lady Denham. Go to Full Review

Sanditon is designed to be a balmy retreat where everything is easy on the eyes, and where abandoning your cares is the point. Like the cliffs around the town, this latest stroll has a few trips and bumps, but is never unendurable. Go to Full Review

When it stopped apologising for what it was not – neither Austen redux nor a postmodern costumer – Sanditon found its voice and occasionally took wing. Go to Full Review

Let’s hope Season 3 improves, but much as it pains me to say, I wonder if they’d have been better off quitting while they were ahead. Go to Full Review

Andrei D @RT74856639 09/24/2024 Manages to hold tension high despite the very traditional formula See more AnnaMarie K @RT03045133 05/14/2023 This show is a beautiful story with vivid characters that are so relatable. Jane Austen's final, unfinished work was brought to life beautifully by all involved. And the chemistry between Rose Williams as Charlotte and Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Alexander was off the CHARTS. The entire cast was on point, the music, cinematography, scenery, scripts, etc...everything was truly remarkable. We would love for you to join us! The world needs more of this show! There is so little good content in the world now, so to have a show that is wholesome and that leaves the audience wanting more is so rare! See more Sandra R @Sandee96 05/12/2023 This season found many changes from the first episode. A main character has died and the lead character has returned with her younger sister in tow. A regiment of soldiers have taken up residence with lots of their own secrets and scandals. Every episode was a nail biter. So much intrigue and excitement happening that it was hard at times to keep up. Overall, truly excellent and honestly much better than the first season. They really upped their games on this one. See more Inese M @RT24837480 04/09/2023 I believe, Jane Austen wouldn't be disappointed. It is probably going not the way she intended (we will never know), but, I am convinced, she would enjoy seeing, how she inspired talented people to continue her story. See more Karen P @RT95894182 04/08/2023 Season 2 dealt with the ramifications of the ending of season 1 well. The season sets up for a continuation of Charlotte's and Georgiana's stories and provides more depth and color to all of the characters. I think this season was better than season 1. It is more in line with a Jane Austen story, and develops our heroines well. I highly recommend this series. See more Vicki H @RT18288112 04/07/2023 Although many were disappointed Theo James refused to come back and the role wasn't recast (which frankly would have been a great disaster), the writers did a great job of continuing Charlotte's storyline. In addition, we should be thankful that much of the cast did return as their story arcs continued - Tom, Mary, Arthur, the Denhams, etc. The show wasn't totally about Charlotte finding her HEA or about the fans who pined for TJ. It was about Sanditon, a fictional town created in Jane Austen's mind and based on a seaside resort she often visited with an exuberant individual who wanted to make it grow. I applaud the writers, cast, and crew for this fantastic season two that rolled into a final season giving what the fans wanted - Charlotte's HEA. I thought they carefully handled the matter of Sidney's death and gave respect to the character even to the very last episode. The acting was suburb, as well as the casting of new characters.
