The strengths of the series are numerous, especially when it comes to the parts that feel like a gothic family drama. Go to Full Review

When you get into the third episode, and you realize that you've seen 10 minutes of eight different stories I didn't feel like I had time to get invested in anything. Go to Full Review

I’m sure many will binge the series, happy to ride out the contradictions, the unbalanced timelines, and the sometimes lazy acting, and delight in Kidman’s aura but Scarpetta fans will be a little disappointed. Go to Full Review

It may feel familiar, but the combination of Kidman, Curtis, Cannavale, Debose, and Baker is what keeps you watching and why you’ll come back for season two. Go to Full Review

On paper, I suspect the tale is more unified and satisfying, but this star cast may draw an audience to the material and then just get in the way of it. Go to Full Review

Its plot twists are surprising, and the performances and character development make 'Scarpetta' one of the most ambitious projects recently released by Prime Video. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Shawn C @WickedXian Aug 6 B-O-R-I-N-G The script is pretty bad, so I dont want to disparage the acting too much. It's hard to make bad lines sound realistic. That being said... Bobby Cannavale stands out, as always. I'm not sure how he did it, but he created a character that felt real, and like everyone else was just visiting the set casually running lines, while he was actually acting. Most fans of the books will NOT like the show, as it is really a tragic mess that feels more about 2 fighting sisters than a murder mystery. Nothing about it has the feel, mystique or overall themes of the books. If you didnt know it was from Patricia Cornwall's books, you would never guess it was. See more Mitzi W @Mitzi585 Aug 5 Love the series, the acting and casting are spot on. Don't get too caught up in loyally following the books... the slow unfolding of the story and the interconnected story lines is clever writing. See more Gary K @RT77201566 Jul 24 Just a complete mess. Every element is bad - filming, lighting, script, acting, time jumps, story, characters..... and gratuitous nudity of dead bodies - why?? Just horrible. See more Jorge S @RT34154138 Jul 24 The series is based on the work of Patricia Cornwell and features medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in both the present and the past—as the head of the Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner—using a flashback structure that links two disturbing murders to her first major case from decades ago. The protagonist's relationships with her sister Dorothy and niece Lucy unfold alongside this timeline, as do those involving Kay's husband (an FBI agent) and her brother-in-law—a former partner who once again teams up with the medical examiner to investigate the murders. The back-and-forth through time can be slightly confusing at times—beyond these two main timeframes, there are also scenes showing Kay during her childhood and adolescence. However, the production is polished and the mysteries are compelling. Rating: 8—and looking forward to the second season to see where it goes. See more She B @RT66769253 Jul 17 I’ma huge Patricia Cornwell fan! I do remember times in the Scarpetta series that I had to reread a few times, bouncing between scenes and characters, so I’m hopeful this will play out similarly. Kidman is a bit too "put together" for the rough Scarpetta from the books, and there’s WAY too much focus on Jamie Lee Curtis’ character. Their interactions are hard to watch. It has great potential, so I’m hoping got a season two with done tweaks in screenwriting and character focus. Not finished season one, so I’m still very hopeful. See more A B @AndyB77 Jul 11 I was so looking forward to this having read all the books but am half way in and struggling to be bothered with more. Jamie lee Curtis just shouts lots. Nicole Kidman could have made such a good Scarpetta but whilst her early years version is true to the books she simply shows no personal development to the 'current day' Scarpetta. In the books she has grown up to be a healthy eating clean living calm acting expert. In this series she is forever a smoking, foul-mouthed argumentative lady as a young or old Scarpetta. At times it is difficult to remember which version you are watching. Such a shame, it could/should have been as good as Reacher. See more Read all reviews
