Second Chance was an idea that took on its own life, a mish-mash of various ideas forced to function as one being, much like Frankenstein's monster. But Frankenstein's monster was much smarter. PASS.

The show will likely become more of a standard crime procedural, though there were glimpses of something else interesting going on underneath the surface which might bode well for its future. One can only hope.

Second Chance isn't the simple retread of The Six Million Dollar Man the early trailers made it out to be.

What's so unfulfilling about Second Chance isn't that it overly complicates a standard story of redemption with mounds of hackneyed science fiction hokum, but that it fails to distinguish itself as a unique delivery system of said sci-fi hooey.

The Frankenstein riff Second Chance is one of those distinctively Fox-network science-fiction shows that has a brain and an eccentric spirit but mostly keeps it hidden beneath conventional elements.

In the era of Peak TV (to use a handy if largely meaningless phrase), a series needs something more than an attractive, charming lead to stand out from the pack - even if that lead is as attractive and charismatic as Kazinsky.

Second Chance, which I'm sorry to say isn't worth a second look.

A stone-cold corpse of a drama that's sorely missing the lightning (and even middling execution) it needs to come to life.

Imbued with the kind of high tech razzle-dazzle networks prefer, I was surprised how entertained I was by its premiere. I'd watch another episode.
January 13, 2016
When it tries to go deep or dark, it feels overwritten and overwrought; as light entertainment, it's passably diverting, not without charm.
January 13, 2016
Yes, this sounds preposterous. And the crime-of-the-weeks sometimes dabble in clichs... But the actors sell it, and the writers throw in enough winking humor to let us not take it too seriously.

The non-procedural elements are the much more exciting parts of the series, but the cases take up way more time.

Second Chance, a new Fox drama that puts a clumsily updated spin on the timeless Frankenstein saga, with a storyline and character roster that are unlikely to prompt anyone, anywhere, to shout, "It's ALIVE!"
January 13, 2016
Second Chance isn't worth a first look.

It's still surprising the network snapped up the Frankenstein-inspired Second Chance, which strikes the rare balance between being over complicated and stupidly simple.

It's not that Second Chance is offensively bad television. It's just... there.
January 13, 2016
The pilot isn't offensively bad or anything, but it's difficult not to think of the numerous ways that it could have been better.

The new Fox action-drama has enough of a twist to make it make it worth checking out.
January 12, 2016
Ultimately, Kazinsky's opening line - "Second chances can be a real monster" - proves all too apt a commentary for a show that should never have been jolted to life in the first place.
January 12, 2016
Second Chance is preposterous, silly, and forgettable. But it never takes itself too seriously and it flows along at a good pace. Take it or leave it.
