India Oxenberg, the 28-year-old daughter of actress Catherine Oxenberg, speaks out for the first time about her involvement in NXIVM and how she became a "branded sex slave." Lured in by celebrity-studded introductory workshops promising business skills and personal breakthroughs, India began a seven-year journey through hell. She is joined by a chorus of other young women whose stories parallel her own. The first episode explores the cult's initial allure and foreshadows the darkness and abuses to come.

The NXIVM curriculum gradually transforms India into a true believer. When actress Allison Mack approaches her about an elite, secret society of women, India hands over damaging personal "collateral" to join, not grasping that she is signing over her freedom and falling deeper into the clutches of the cult leader, manipulative sexual predator Keith Raniere.

In the Albany suburb of Clifton Park, home to NXIVM's insular inner circle and location of the cult's darkest crimes and abuses, India, as a member of the secret slave master group known as DOS, is subjected to forced starvation, sleep deprivation, emotional abuse, physical punishments, separation from family, repeated sexual assault, and being branded without anesthesia.

Critic Reviews for Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult Miniseries

All Critics (10) | Top Critics (4)

If The Vow's desire is to prove to people watching how enticing the NXIVM community might have seemed, Seduced's is to expose how disturbing it really was.

Nov 9, 2020 | Full Review…

Forewarned is forearmed, and on that score Seduced should be compulsory viewing for everyone so they can see the warning signs.

Nov 19, 2020 | Full Review…

Seduced displays the difficult path to healing necessary before some can even begin to reckon with the pain NXIVM caused them.

Oct 28, 2020 | Full Review…

Much of the insidery footage here is similar to that of The Vow, but Seduced's shorter runtime means the clips of, say, Raniere defending rape (it's only abuse if the woman thinks of herself as a victim, he blusters) don't get lost in the bloated shuffle.

Oct 28, 2020 | Full Review…

India makes a compelling witness to the horrors of NXIVM, and her personal story gives Seduced a sturdy narrative arc.

Nov 12, 2020 | Full Review…

Seduced offers a superb primer into the world of cults, expertly breaking down the mechanics behind Raniere's long grift.

Nov 11, 2020 | Full Review…

The Vow is, for me, still a superior unscripted TV show, but Seduced broadens its lens and fills in details, constructing a fuller picture of Keith Raniere and the damage he did via NXIVM.

Nov 1, 2020 | Rating: B | Full Review…

Allied to a series of interviews with cult experts and NXIVM victims, this docuseries is a terrifying portrait of a nefarious organisation moulded by a narcissistic, corrupt individual.

Oct 28, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

It was packed with great interviews with cult exit counsellors and therapists who had deprogrammed the children of the rich and famous who were inexplicably persuaded.

Oct 28, 2020 | Full Review…

Seduced is a strong entry into the post-NXIVM narrative, and one that importantly takes us with India through the recovery process.

Worth a watch. India's presentation of her story seems *very* rehearsed.

Very well done documentary by Cecilia Peck. India, Debora, Naomi, Ashley, Tabby, Ana and all the other Jane Doe's who appear in the series are very brave for speaking out. The series is a great companion to "The Vow", Cecilia and Inbal (editor, producer) have even said they don't want to compete. The Vow's second season will include the more awful details shown in this. I enjoyed every episode of this and couldn't wait for the next week.

This seems a lot more honest than the Netflix version. The men in the Belgic version even though they left make themselves seem innocent. They are not. They tortured women for decades and then left because they were afraid they would go down with Reiner. I would watch this version. Much more honest
