See more Carol M @Junobird Feb 2 I am that tiresome person who really really misses Jimmy. I find DI Calder utterly unbelievable as a cop who has so much authority. She is a loose cannon, frequently irrational and governed by emotion. Tosh mostly puts up with her, but their lack of structure and procedure makes the last few seasons frustrating and forgettable. The duo of Ruth Calder and Tosh more than carry the show, they are an excellent combination. I loved the original cast, and read every one of the Ann Cleeves books with Jimmy Perez, but change is a fact of life and it is time to stop moaning about the past and take this new combo at face value. It’s a great match up. Noticeably the haters are guys who want a "strong male lead" - apparently they can’t stomach a strong woman. So 18th century . . . Give it a rest!
