Tv Season Info

In Season 1 of "Shots Fired," a black police officer, Joshua Beck (Tristan Mack Wilds), shoots and kills an apparently unarmed white man during a routine traffic stop in a predominantly black neighborhood. An investigation begins and, through the work of prosecutor Preston Terry (Stephan James) and his partner Ashe Akino (Sanaa Lathan), it becomes clear that a shooting of a black teenager in the same neighborhood has been swept under the carpet despite rumors of police involvement. Elsewhere, as the tensions in the two cases ramp up, Ashe and Preston's personal relationships start to cause problems with their ability to work together and risk derailing their investigation, while local Pastor Janae James (Aisha Hinds) puts pressure on Governor Patricia Eamons (Helen Hunt) to do more for the black community in her state. Also starring Richard Dreyfuss and Stephen Moyer.

Critic Reviews for Shots Fired Season 1

Ambitious and intelligent, but also a sprawl that can't quite master all the big themes and ideas.

Shots Fired is still without any indictments while bobbing and weaving through various subplots. Still, it's drama of a fairly high order and relevancy on a network not known for such efforts.

Shots Fired may lack the precision of its auteur-driven predecessors, but it's taking its own path to starting a similar, vital discussion. That distinction alone is worth admiring.

The great cast and cultural relevance keep it interesting in ways that most current network TV isn't.

Mar 22, 2017 | Full Review…

It's not a typical crime procedural offering instant gratification. It's entertainment in the quest of some truth.

Mar 20, 2017 | Full Review…

I'd like to report that Shots Fired... is prime rib. It's not, but the 10-part series comes close at times, thanks to a fierce performance from Sanaa Lathan and subtle directorial touches.

Mar 17, 2017 | Rating: 3/4 | Full Review…

Shots Fired, from what I can tell, will benefit from not being scared to expand perspectives. It's also showing sides of the story that some people don't want to hear.

Jun 13, 2018 | Full Review…

It all builds into a powerful depiction of an America in which police brutality and corporate corruption are never far from the surface.

May 16, 2018 | Full Review…

Shots Fired isn't afraid to dive into the kind of racial politicization we've seen in the last few years.

Feb 20, 2018 | Full Review…

Even with its flaws, Shots Fired is evocative television, equal parts mystery and medicine, and worth a slice of your time each week.

Jan 11, 2018 | Full Review…

Though the subject matter is powerfully provocative, the plotting is a bit too [predictable].

Mar 22, 2017 | Full Review…

Shots Fired's biggest sin is its lack of urgency. For a story this topical, Shots seems constructed like a LEGO model -- one scene is pressed onto another.
