So, to sum up: decadent and adult, but too entertaining to be this week's harbinger of the apocalypse.
Sitting through an hour of it is like being trapped in a 14-year-old girl's gym bag with a fork stuck in your ribs, and it's utterly stupendous.
Skins has energy, trades in realism, is honest, and avoids stereotype and easy plot choices, rare qualities in TV aimed at a young audience.
But occasionally Skins ' absurdity gives way to deep, touching moments that underline the true difficulties of being in high-school; it's these moments that make the show unavoidably addictive.
Skins is an unflinching look at the complicated world of an upper-middle class British teenager's life.
