We've seen it played out in both television and film since time immemorial, but you'd expect a little more substance in 2021. Instead, what we get here is yet more of the same: female trauma used as a stunt to entertain and titillate.

With a great core cast and a fast-paced, twisty plot, it's an entertaining series that has the potential to become more than just a cheap thrill.

There's a discussion to be had over whether the series should have exercised more restraint in certain scenes, but the story has packed enough emotional punch so far to instill faith in its approach.

For all its colour, car chases and Tarantino-esque whiffs of sadism, it's a vivid, thundering denunciation of the sexual exploitation of women.

This series is entertaining from top to bottom, and our three leads are beyond compelling.

We appreciate Sky Rojo's "less is more" approach, which is not common these days.
