Critic Reviews for Sneaky Pete Season 1

Sneaky Pete is indeed pretty sneaky. At first you're rolling your eyes at what seems an absurd stretch of a premise, but soon enough you're buying its always-on-edge predicaments and after a few episodes you're hooked into its story-upon-story acrobatics.

After a shaky start, Pete gets denser, trickier and better.

In a twist on the "grandma con," he (Ribisi) turns up at the home of his cellmate's grandparents and claims to be long-lost Pete. The believing grandparents take him in, and I won't spoil the delightful results with details

The show's irresistible central hook and largely winning ensemble are strong enough to convince you to stick with it.

Like so many other Amazon shows, it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a reminder that TV can be fun.

Sneaky Pete is not one of those intricate series. It's relatively easy to follow, and, more important, it's a lot of fun.

Over the course of 10 episodes, Sneaky Pete shows viewers a nicely paced timeline of life for con artist Marius Josipovic after he's released from prison and assumes the identity of his cellmate, Pete Murphy.

It's gritty, hard hearted and violent as it glorifies Ribisi's character's manipulative, con artist lifestyle. Can't say I enjoyed it. Honestly, aren't things scary enough IRL?

That's the thing - Sneaky Pete isn't reinventing the wheel here. But it is providing a fun, easily binge-able caper.

Gold. Nothing much else to say, every episode made me wanting more, and every character was so well done.

Drew me in and I could not stop watching so many twists and turns. Amazing show.

This is one of those shows that don't seem like it should be good, but after you watch a couple of episodes, it kind of sneaks up on you and you end up liking it. The overall storyline is good. the plots and script are written well. The character developments are good and the acting is good. For what it is, I think it is a very well done show.

It (mostly) manages to balance its over abundance of storylines with coherence due to its fine writing and superb performances.

Giovanni is phenomenal. I put off watching it but I'm glad I finally got to it. I am not disappointed.

If you enjoy dark but playful plots, criminal conning protagonists with a fatal human side, and phenomenal acting, Sneaky Pete is for you! I became hooked on this show with just the first episode and ended up binging both seasons. One of those shows where you finish it and immediately consider rewatching just to get more content from it.

They need a season 3! This show is too good and the storY lines are amazing

I had no idea what to expect when I began watching Sneaky Pete. I didn’t even know the premise of the show. By the time I finished season 2 I realized I had been watching one of the best TV shows I had ever seen. The acting is fine — Ribisi is exceptional — but it is the writing that defines this show’s excellence. I marvel at how well the fairly complex story line is knitted together so that it is not only coherent and ingenious, it can be followed from beginning to end. Unlike, say, Bosch, which I watched before Sneaky Pete, it doesn’t need self-conscioius dialog intended to bring the viewer up to speed. It is so good that it even leaves a quality movie like The Grifters in its dust.

It's not breaking bad, but it is still a really solid show. Great writing. Great performances.
