Critic Reviews for Sneaky Pete Season 1

All Critics (31) | Top Critics (17)

Sneaky Pete is indeed pretty sneaky. At first you're rolling your eyes at what seems an absurd stretch of a premise, but soon enough you're buying its always-on-edge predicaments and after a few episodes you're hooked into its story-upon-story acrobatics.

After a shaky start, Pete gets denser, trickier and better.

In a twist on the "grandma con," he (Ribisi) turns up at the home of his cellmate's grandparents and claims to be long-lost Pete. The believing grandparents take him in, and I won't spoil the delightful results with details

Like so many other Amazon shows, it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a reminder that TV can be fun.

Sneaky Pete is not one of those intricate series. It's relatively easy to follow, and, more important, it's a lot of fun.

Jan 11, 2017 | Full Review…

It all works in the pilot because the characters are convincingly human.

Dec 28, 2017 | Full Review…

Over the course of 10 episodes, Sneaky Pete shows viewers a nicely paced timeline of life for con artist Marius Josipovic after he's released from prison and assumes the identity of his cellmate, Pete Murphy.

Aug 26, 2018 | Full Review…

It's gritty, hard hearted and violent as it glorifies Ribisi's character's manipulative, con artist lifestyle. Can't say I enjoyed it. Honestly, aren't things scary enough IRL?

Aug 24, 2018 | Full Review…

That's the thing - Sneaky Pete isn't reinventing the wheel here. But it is providing a fun, easily binge-able caper.

Audience Reviews for Sneaky Pete: Season 1

  • Aug 03, 2020
I started watching this after I finished Bosch, I was kind of getting bored of the same, "I found him" or "get off your ass and go knock on doors" witch was a poster on a desk (it was sort of getting on my nerves). any way I started watching sneaky peat witch is really addictive, and it gives you something witch are not normally in cop films. the way it's made is great, What a series!

Sneaky Pete promises a lot but doesn't evolve well enough to be worth watching. Bryan Cranston can't give the Breaking Bad here with his long old-man stories
  • May 20, 2020
Another great series that was cancelled way too soon
  • Apr 19, 2020
more down to earth breaking bad, takes you on mental and emotional trip

First season was a delight. One of my favorite seasons of any show in some time. The plot twists were amazing. The characters were well developed and lovable in their flaws. Definitely a great show if you were a fan of Breaking Bad. Might even be the first show I've seen that is close to Breaking Bad in quality in that genre.

    This is a fresh tomato.

Great show. Impeccable acting from Ribisi and Martindale as well as the rest of the cast. Great plot, script, pacing and some funny moments that don't feel out of place. Season 1 is a masterpiece and so is season 2 and though season 3 is slightly slower and focuses more on the family you still get fantastic performances from fantastic actors and a good easy to digest plot. Overall one of my favourite shows as of late.

Such a good series. So many twists and an excellent plot line. Hope I can find something to watch next that is just as good.
  • Dec 13, 2019
Wow, amazing show. So interesting, though the last season got a little too complex for me to follow. Giovanni Ribissi is incredible, Margo Martindale and a host of other great character actors.

Hooked. I love the characters, especially the family. The Grandparents are badass. This was fun to watch.
