Based on an award-winning memoir from Mark Critch, "Son of a Critch" is the hilarious and very real story of a young Mark coming of age in the 1980s. Developed from Critch's 2018 memoir, which was in turn based on his real life experiences growing up in Newfoundland, Canada, the series is a heartfelt window in the life of a child who is much older inside than his 11 years. He uses comedy and self-deprecation to win friends and connect with the small collection of people in his limited junior high world.

In a series that tries to delicately balance humour with heartfelt moments, it’s the outright fun that keeps you watching. Go to Full Review

I’m reminded... of other narrated-from-the-future, semi-autobiographical period pieces like “The Kids Are Alright,” “Moone Boy” and “Everybody Hates Chris” — which you can consider very much a recommendation. Go to Full Review

On the most basic level, Son of a Critch is just fun, with crazy people. Go to Full Review

Bryan E @BigBry Dec 4 Does no one remember the Wonder Years with Kevin and Winnie? This is a direct rip off. Luckily they ripped off a great show as this is also fantastic. Worth watching See more Sharon R @RT91515158 Aug 5 Such a good show! Great writing with a lot of laugh out loud moments. Somehow though, it's also quietly funny, with subtle humor and heartfelt moments. My husband and I can't believe we've never heard of it before. Highly recommend See more Trevor R @Laaal Jul 2 Not sure why I’m just now finding this show, I’ve never even heard of it of it until yesterday and I couldn’t stop watching. Its the right amount of comedy and emotions and I think it’s way better than the Goldbergs, these characters are much more realistic and relatable. This show does a good job at background comedy. Light hearted and enjoyable for all ages. See more Amy T @RT98111686 Jun 30 I wasn't sure what i was going to get in watching this show-- but to my happy surprise I am enjoying every moment. The casting is just right! The young actor playing Mark is true AND SPOT ON IN HIS INNOCENCE AND QUICK WIT. AND Malcolm McDowell is thoroughly entertaining every line timed to perfection. Clever writing! Just the antidote to news I need! Watch and enjoy!! See more Nancy R @nreaves Jun 24 Not sure any of these narrated/bio/ comedies with an 80s backdrop can come anywhere close to The Goldbergs, (Alex Goldberg set the standard and owns this format-in my opinion) but this one tries really hard. Worth a watch! See more Leissa S @RT82726697 04/27/2025 Son of a Critch is sweet, funny, nostalgic Canadian gold. The characters are so on point, and their chemistry is magical. Grab some popcorn and enjoy 🇨🇦🍁❤️🍁🇨🇦 See more Read all reviews
