In the very near future, a test is developed that incontrovertibly lets a person know who their soulmate is. The new science is clear, and no matter a person's current relationship status, whether they are single, dating or even married, this test will unmistakably point a person in the direction of their actual, scientifically determined soulmate. People in long-term relationships should not be content in believing they've already made the right choice. Even if a person seems to be deep in love with their current partner, this test may just prove that they are mistaken. After all, science knows best.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Well-performed, but frustratingly fleeting, Soulmates asks some interesting questions, but its anthology approach cuts any novel revelations short.

Yes, it's grim, but the series is beautifully made, especially "The Lovers" episode, with an excellent cast. Go to Full Review

Soulmates poses some interesting questions, has some interesting characters, but the episodes are just that bit too uneven for it to be a Must Watch. Go to Full Review

Soulmates isn't exactly a cynical show. Though it's skeptical about the mythic balm of predestined romantic love, the anthology insists that the choices we make and the way we treat other people do matter. Go to Full Review

A well written collection of stories that challenges the audience with the question of whether they would take the test Soulmates has plenty going for it to be worthy of your time. Go to Full Review

Across six intriguing episodes, Soulmates asks the audience to ponder whether love really can be determined by predestination or whether the right to choose and make an informed decision is an implacable and fundamental part of the human experience. Go to Full Review

A fantastic premise, which could have led to many philosophicals: sadly, it doesn't really progress over its six episodes, and feels as if the writers have rather crammed in too many current orthodoxies for the sake of box-ticking. Go to Full Review

Oz S @Ozsoffy Jun 9 The series often feels like a softer, more emotional cousin of Black Mirror. Some episodes are genuinely thought-provoking and linger in your mind long after they end, while others don’t quite reach the same level. The strong cast helps elevate the material, but the quality can vary from episode to episode. What makes Soulmates worth watching is that it isn’t really about finding "the one." It’s about questioning whether love is destiny, choice, commitment, or some messy combination of all three. If you enjoy speculative fiction that focuses on people rather than gadgets, this is an easy recommendation. See more Madison T @madi_ariel Mar 19 A lazy rip off of Black Mirror. Episode 4 was terribly written! The dialogue was super cheesy and the plot was predictable. Every episode is a poor copy of an episode of Black Mirror. Every episode. I only made it through 4 episodes, but I can’t go on. It’s so bad. I can’t emphasize this enough. See more Darrin S. @JustD2026 Mar 2 Very interesting thought provoking show. Prepare to have more questions than answers, all 6 vignettes makes a person discuss the genesis of LOVE. It's a conversation starter for sure. See more Rivkah F @Rivkah Feb 23 Really enjoyed the anthology approach. Seeing multiple perspectives, plotlines, and consequences of taking 'the test' made for a great season. See more Yvette B @LaayloreChuckles Feb 18 The concept that a test could determine a person's soul mate, in and of itself leaves the potential for fraud and deception wide open. This is explored quite well in two of the six episodes. While overall the series is definately watchable, the plot lines are highly predictable. That said the anthology style, while obviously limiting the depth of individual story lines, does allow the creators to explore the soul mate test concept from six very different perspectives, offering each a higher level of attention than could probably be achieved with concurrently running story lines. A few words of caution: The first episode is perhaps the weakest of the six so it's worth watching further episodes before making your decision on the series worth. See more Ry N @RyGuy Jan 24 A futuristic show where a test can find your soulmate in the world and each episode follows a different couple. I didn't care much for most of the matches, but the finale was definitely its highest point. See more Read all reviews
