Spent may lack the big yucks of its sitcom forebears, but once the rather shallow premise gives way to a character study, there’s much to enjoy. At its best, the show is just like the cover girl it depicts: eye-catching and seductive. Go to Full Review

You can forgive unlikeable leads a lot if they make you laugh but Spent sets up plenty of comedic situations – a teenage party, a disastrous circumcision ritual, some dog sitting; some actual dogging – without ever delivering the payload. Go to Full Review
James Walton The Spectator 07/17/2024
Is this meant to be a sitcom-style satire of Mia’s feelings of entitlement or a comedy-drama-style celebration of her indestructible confidence in the face of an unjust world? The answer is a firm and ultimately unsatisfying ‘it doesn’t know’. Go to Full Review
Andrew Anthony Observer (UK) 07/15/2024

There are some good lines and ideas here, and De Swarte sparkles with watchability, but some of the situations feel overfamiliar, the humour not quite as sharp as it needs to be, and the minor characters a little caricatured. Go to Full Review

margaret m @RT47256830 01/29/2025 I absolutely LOVED this show Michelle you are amazing! Series 2 please. See more journey m @RT24568965 11/18/2024 I must say I was thoroughly impressed with the series from start to finish! Michelle De Swarte's talent both in acting and producing to the blend of relatable, heart-warming, and witty storytelling. The series tackled deeply emotional and socially relevant themes with both sensitivity and wit. Addressing the impact of growing up with parents suffering from mental health challenges—and how society and peer pressure influence our willingness to share such experiences—is both poignant and important. It’s incredible when a show can handle such complex subjects while remaining relatable and engaging. Michelle De Swarte's ability to bring those themes to life, while balancing humor and authenticity made a big impact. It’s refreshing to see mental health being represented in a way that resonates deeply with audiences. I do hope there is another season in the pipeline i am hooked See more Michelle W @RT77204220 10/23/2024 Love this show, brilliant acting, Michelle you are amazing! Please write more of this magic, takes me away from my real life and not much tv can do that for me, so thank you ! Xx See more Joanne L @RT94730450 08/04/2024 I thought it was great, not perfect, but still great. I love the flawed but witty , sharp and warm character of Mia, brilliantly played by Michelle de Swarte and other characters such as that her mother Juliet Cowan, and her best friend Jo ( Amanda Wilkin) are terrific too. Brixton is well portrayed - the gentrification of what was back in 60 and70s considered a very edgy area, is now inhabited by the wealthy and somewhat pretentious arty types as well as long- standing working class members of the diverse community. Both groups are seen in abundance in Spent. Well, I loved it, watched all episodes back to back and only hope that the tepid reception from the TV critics doesn't stop a second series being made.
