I wish it had lasted more than two seasons, despite its ratings struggles. It was a TV auteur's sitcom, a bittersweet gem, and a part of sitcom evolution that now allows TV comedies to take on dramatic themes.
Sports Night was marvelous in its ability to show people -- reconizably smart, loving people -- making real mistakes that created the kinds of real conflicts that real people encounter in real relationships and workplaces.
While season two certainly had its good points, it was much more uneven than season one.
The setup and subsequent evolution of the story lines throughout season two is masterfully done. While there is some regret that we never get the full pay off due to Sports Night's untimely demise, the characters are so enduring...
For as good as the first season is, the second season is far better.
