Critic Reviews for Stan Against Evil Season 1

All Critics (15) | Top Critics (7)

It's silly fun without breaking any new ground.

Oct 17, 2018 | Full Review…

The main reason to tune in to this cheerfully goofy show is to see typically excellent performances from leads John C. McGinley and Janet Varney.

An inconsistent but sporadically effective horror-comedy that often rises to the level of "just fine" and periodically even hits "pretty good," thanks in huge part to the central star turn by John C. McGinley.

Nov 2, 2016 | Full Review…

Despite a sparse but promising cast of supporting players, this is McGinley's showcase, a not-unpromising prospect for anyone still missing his turn as secretly-soulful, motor-mouthed alpha male Perry Cox on Scrubs.

Top Critic

Stan Against Evil is light, if violent, entertainment. The jokes are moderately funny, the characters two-and-a-half dimensional.

Nov 1, 2016 | Full Review…

Stan is amusing, but it feels like a whisper next to Ash's heavy-metal monster mash.

Oct 17, 2018 | Full Review…

Comedy-driven horror has fantasy gore, cursing.

Feb 21, 2017 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

There are enough solid comic actors in the ensemble, led by Janet Varney, to make you think it will work as a series.

Nov 4, 2016 | Full Review…

Too much of Stan Against Evil is boilerplate comedy when it's not eerily reminiscent of Ash vs. Evil Dead.

Nov 3, 2016 | Full Review…

It's a fun premise, though the series doesn't quite have a full handle on the tone and characters yet.

Nov 2, 2016 | Rating: 6.2/10 | Full Review…

Stan Against Evil toys with horror cliches and assures you that whatever you fear, something worse -- or funnier -- is right around the corner.

Nov 2, 2016 | Rating: B- | Full Review…

Stan Against Evil (IFC) is the horror-comedy equivalent of a pop-up Halloween store on November 1: messy, threadbare, vaguely depressing in its drab bereftness.

Audience Reviews for Stan Against Evil: Season 1

  • Sep 15, 2018
It's a good comedy horror series, but seriously they could have given evie a little more common sense. Like it's frustrating to watch some times.
  • Jun 19, 2018
OMG JOHN C REILLY IS JUST EVERYTHING IN THIS SHOW. IT SEEMS A CONTINUATION OF HIS SALTY DR. COX ROUTINE FROM SCRUBS BUT IT IS STILL HILARIOUS. HIS RELUCTANCE TO DEAL WITH THE SUPERNATURAL PROBLEMS THAT KEEP POPPING UP IN TOWN MAKE IT THAT MUCH FUNNIER COMBINED WITH HIS RIDICULOUS DAUGHTER WHO SEEMS TO NOT HAVE ALL THE LIGHTS ON. GREAT CONCEPT FOR A SHOW, A NICE BREAK FROM THE MONOTONY OF BASIC CHANNELS AND THEIR COOKIE CUTTER SHOWS. 10/10 RECOMMEND.
  • Nov 19, 2017
This is a fun quirky horror show, with interesting and quirky characters.
  • Oct 09, 2017
Funny with just enough sci-fi spooky. If you like or love the evil dead series , or Steve raimi, you will really enjoy Stan against evil.
  • Sep 14, 2017
If you love B Movies and great effects, this is the show to watch. Clever, original and hilarious.
  • Aug 20, 2017
Lots of laughs and subtle humor
  • Jan 14, 2017
This is a deeply enjoyable, well acted, low-fi horror comedy. Like Supernatural for geeky puppet-lovers (just realizing that the term puppet-lovers could be misconstrued). The audience rating is much more accurate than the tepid critics aggregate score. As with the original Ghostbusters movie, the critics are better ignored for this one. They seem to have forgotten that TV can just be goofy good fun.
  • Jan 02, 2017
Cheesey and derivative and I love every minute.
  • Nov 21, 2016
Fun show, I hope they do a 2nd season.
  • Nov 15, 2016
This show is blatantly copying "Ash Vs. Evil Dead".
