This show has boldly tried re-inventing and updating Trek, and, after the first episode, it works.

As the medium of television evolves, it's comforting to know that Star Trek is there to evolve right along with it.

Sep 25, 2017 | Full Review…

While Discovery is fundamentally quite different from much of the Trek that's come before, its engagement with the franchise, and willingness to both celebrate and examine its core values, keep it true to that spirit.

The actor playing this mysterious Gabriel Lorca -- Jason Isaacs -- also happens to be a major talent who instantly lifts Martin-Green's game. These two appear to be a winning, multidimensional combo.

In short, [Discovery] announces a series of high ambition, fit for purpose for the golden age of TV.

It's got enough good stuff to keep me watching. Nonetheless, it feels a bit too obsessed with Star Trek for its own sake, rather than as a vehicle for telling stories with broader resonance.

But despite all that plot, what the show couldn't achieve was a satisfactory conclusion, be it for its full-season arc or with the cliff-hanger in the finale.

It leads to reflection, has well-defined characters, exciting battles and some moment of genuine wonder with the infinity of space. Pure 'Star Trek'. [Full Review in Spanish]

It has been a good start, in which we had the chance to know great characters and I felt myself on board the ship. [Full Review in Spanish]

This messy iteration is not what Trekkies deserve.

The effects are suitably impressive, the characters and premise are compelling, and a clear effort has gone into producing something new and different that still upholds the spirit of hope and optimism the entire franchise embodies.

It was a risk to set a new Star Trek show several years before the events of the Original Series, but, as it turns out, it was a risk worth taking.

Audience Reviews for Star Trek: Discovery: Season 1

  • Nov 13, 2020
They ruined the Klingons and It's disappointing in general
  • Nov 10, 2020
It is the worst it could possibly be.
  • Nov 09, 2020
Good acting but thats about it.
  • Oct 23, 2020
Poor writing that makes every scene feel frantic. Overall, show feels sterile and cold, both visually and character wise. Little to no character development for anyone outside of the central character. Plot points come across forced and lacking finesse. Overall, it's not enjoyable to watch and provides little to no reason to re-watch. The show feels like Transformers and Star Trek took their worst characteristics and used those to make a TV show.
  • Oct 22, 2020
If I wanted to see one character cry for a whole season I'd watch a snow man in summer.
  • Oct 19, 2020
Would've loved to have seen Bryan Fuller's version of this series or any writer familiar with Star Trek.
  • Oct 19, 2020
A great fresh addition to the Star Trek franchise. Anyone who does not see this is the direction the series needs is blind.
  • Oct 18, 2020
Clunky, stagey and unsubtle - like a parody of Star Wars instead of the thoughtful traditions of Star Trek.
  • Oct 17, 2020
Gory and unhappy is what this season was. I'm sorry I watched it.
  • Oct 17, 2020
This wasn't very good. Lacks character development and so many plot holes. Make me care about your characters.
